Component Video Interconnects. Inputs 1 and 2 of the SD-641-HD5 have a 3rd type of input connection called a Component Connection (also found on better DVD players and HDTV set top boxes). This consists of 3 pin-type, or "RCA" jacks, and gives the best high resolution picture (it does this by transmitting the black and white information on one wire labeled Y, the difference between the black and white and red information on a second wire Yr, and the difference between the black and white and blue information on a third independent wire labeled Yb). HDTV monitors such as the SD-641-HD5 can accept signals from HDTV tuners and display 1080I HDTV images when using these component inputs, which can detect and display either HDTV from an HDTV tuner or NTSC signals from the component outputs of a DVD player.

With these sources, a component connection eliminates still another stage of processing inside the TV set. In terms of image quality, the step from S-video to component video is less noticeable than that from composite-to S-video, but it can still make a noticeable difference on some sets.

These cards enable you to grab a single frame of video from a Laser Disk or a VCR. Video frame grabbers come in two varieties : single-frame capture and real-time capture. Single-frame capture boards enable you to freeze a selected frame and record it to your hard disk. In this function, single-frame boards are similar to scanners-they provide a means of capturing an image and saving it for use in a multimedia title.... Real-time frame grabbers capture full-motion video at a rate between 15 and 30 frames-per-second using video compression....

... the Mac, through QuickTime, shrinks the video image to a small size(160 X 120 pixels) to reduce the amount of video data required for each frame of video.... QuickTime also provides users with a variety of compressors for specific types of files-still images, video, animation, and so on. These compressors allow you to reduce your QuickTime clips’ file size, which can get enormous(the average uncompressed file size of our 30-second test clip was 16 megabytes). The compressors employ spatial compression to reduce the file size of each individual frame and temporal compression to reduce the amount of data repeated across a group of frames.

Copy stands ... are useful for amateur photographers who occasionally need a few copy negatives, and also for small microfilming jobs or similar work. This kind of stand is usually an upright column mounted on a copyboard. The camera is attached by means of its tripod socket to an arm-and-collar assembly, which slides up and down the column. A pair of lamps to illuminate the original are also mounted on the column at a suitable distance from the copyboard.
