For example, [a] 360-degree video can provide a viewer with a virtual reality experience, putting the viewer in a virtually different time and/or place. As another example, [a] 360-degree video can provide a viewer with a first-person view of video content captured by a remote device(e. g., an unmanned aerial vehicle, or other device). One method for capturing [a] 360-degree video is to use an omnidirectional camera. Omnidirectional cameras can capture a wide field of view with just a few lenses. The resulting images exhibit a fisheye effect.

A user experiences a 360° video by rotating the camera about the center as well as in effect rotating the perspective or FOV [field-of-view] while viewing the video. According to an embodiment of the … invention, the camera, or view, is changed based on user input such as by using a mouse, keyboard, mobile device, controller, head-mounted display, or virtual reality headset. In this way, the end user adjusts the view manually or directly. Camera, or view orientation changes provide meaningful insight into how a user experiences a 360° video.

Immersive 3D environments are environments in which the viewer is given the impression of being brought into and navigating within the 3D environment. Many 3D graphics environments are not immersive. In non-immersive 3D environments, a viewer is merely provided with the sensation of being placed in front of the 3D scene and looks in. One recent use of immersive 3D graphics is virtual reality(VR), which attempts to give the viewer the impression of being inside a 3D representation of a real or imaginary place. The growing availability of VR graphics tools has resulted in the viewer being placed inside more or less abstract 3D scenes.

Windows programs are based around a standard set of features known as the application program interface or API. All programs call on the API for most of their functions. But some of the API functions are not accessed directly from Visual Basic. Using the API is not difficult, but the API is picky. Everything must be just so, and much of what you have to add to your programs is quite detailed. The API viewer enables you to cut and paste the required declarations. It helps you avoid errors and is a great time saver.

The video-on-demand model takes advantage of some form of two-way communication between the home and the video source, which could be a low-bandwidth back channel on a CATV path or a phone line with sufficient bandwidth to carry a compressed video signal. The home may be furnished with a low-cost box, which accepts signals from a hand-held control and which transmits the appropriate status to the video control center. The viewer uses the hand-held control to navigate a selection menu and choose a program. Shortly after the selection is made, the program begins playing. During the course of the movie the viewer is able to pause, reposition, and use other VCR-like controls.
