Photic retinopathy is a generalized term for light-induced retinal damage. It is most often due to inadvertent exposure. Examples include retinal damage induced by solar viewing or the operating microscope. The mechanism is typically photochemical, and this may be enhanced by elevated tissue temperature and increased blood oxygen tension.... Brightfield microscopy is the most elementary form of microscope illumination techniques... The name "brightfield" is derived from the fact that the specimen is dark and contrasted by the surrounding bright viewing field.... In brightfield microscopy a specimen is placed on the stage of the microscope and incandescent light from the microscope's light source is aimed at a lens beneath the specimen.... light passes through the specimen and then is collected by an objective lens situated in a turret above the stage.... The drawing apparatus does not project an image originating from the microscope, it rather adds an external image, that of the drawing, to the one normally observed in the microscope eyepiece.... The drawing attachment described here fits easily between the binocular tube and the tube support of a Wild compound microscope. It is a tubular piece, protruding horizontally to the left or the right hand of the observer.... Similar "drawing tubes" for camera lucida viewing with stereomicroscopes are also available.
