World exposition sanctioned by the International Bureau of Expositions, held in Vancouver 2 May-30 Oct. 1986. The theme, Transportation and Communication, celebrated the centenaires of the founding of Vancouver and the arrival on the Pacific coast of the first passenger train. Fifty-four governments and industries from six continents participated and there were over 22 million individual visits to the site. The commissioner general was Patrick Reid. Located along Vancouver's inner-city waterway, the 70 hectare site featured over 80 pavilions and many indoor and outdoor performance venues, including the Xerox International Theatre, a 1500-seat outdoor amphitheatre; The Big House, a 400-seat theatre of longhouse design; The Barn, a 300-seat proscenium theatre; and the Street of the Expo site on which a street festival took place throughout the exposition's run. The Canadian Pavilion, separate from the main site accessible to visitors by a four--minute ride on Vancouver's new Advanced Light Rapid Transit system, housed five performance spaces including a 500-seat outdoor amphitheatre, the 380-seat Amiga Studio(the exhibition's only enclosed theatre), and the 350-seat Inner Stage.  1, fiche 1, Anglais, - Expo%2086

Exposition universelle sanctionnée par le Bureau des expositions internationales et tenue à Vancouver du 2 mai au 30 octobre 1986. Le thème, Transport et Communication, soulignait les centenaires de la fondation de Vancouver et de l'arrivée sur la côte du Pacifique du premier train de voyageurs. Cinquante-quatre gouvernements et industries de six continents y ont participé et plus de 22 millions de visiteurs ont été accueillis sur le site. Le commissaire général était Patrick Reid. Construit le long de la voie d'eau au centre-ville de Vancouver, le site de 70 hectares logeait plus de 80 pavillons et plusieurs lieux couverts et en plein air pour accueillir des spectacles, dont le Xerox International Theatre, un amphithéâtre de 1 500 places en plein air; The Big House, un théâtre de 400 places sur le modèle d'une «longhouse» amérindienne; The Barn, un théâtre de 300 places avec proscenium; et la rue du site de l'Expo où un festival prenait place pendant toute la durée de l'exposition. Le pavillon canadien, séparé du site principal mais accessible aux visiteurs en quatre minutes à bord du nouveau système de transit rapide et léger de Vancouver, abritait cinq lieux d'attractions dont un amphithéâtre à ciel ouvert de 500 places, l'Amiga Studio de 380 places (le seul théâtre fermé de l'exposition), et la Scène intérieure de 350 places.  1, fiche 1, Français, - Expo%2086
