"Our Beginnings" was originally created by Thompson as a logo for the 1997 North American Indigenous Games. The image has been generously donated by the artist to a new program to be used as its visual identity. The program, the first of its kind in Canada, is committed to teaching and research that respects both western and indigenous traditions and forms of knowledge. Hunt, Tony, Kwaknaka’wakw(KWAKIUTL) artist(b at Alert Bay, BC, 24 Aug 1942). He is leader in the social and ceremonial life of Alert Bay, a master of traditional performance as well as of the visual arts, and has established an international reputation as a carver of Kwakiutl-style Northwest Coast Native Art. Hunt, Tony, artiste Kwaknaka'wakw ou KWAKIUTL (Alert Bay, C.-B., 24 août 1942). Hunt est un chef de file de la vie sociale et cérémonielle d'Alert Bay ainsi qu'un maître des arts de la scène traditionnels et des arts visuels. Il s'assure une renommée internationale comme sculpteur d'œuvres du style kwakiutl de l'Art autochtone de la côte du Nord-Ouest. Jason Lanier is a virtual-reality performance artist. In his piece "The Sound of One Hand", which has played to packed theatres in Chicago, Toronto and Linz(Austria), he appears on stage framed by the image of a virtual world he enters when he dons special goggles and a DataGlove. His audience sees what he sees and what he does. His movements elicit eerie, tinkling notes from the computer-generated virtual instruments he is playing : a Cybersax, a CyberXylo and a Rhythm Gimbal.
