Imagine Canada builds on the proud history of two leading voices of Canada's charitable and nonprofit sector : the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy(CCP) and the Coalition of National Voluntary Organizations(NVO). Founded in 1974, NVO was the national advocacy and public policy voice for the voluntary sector. CCP was created in 1981 to support the work of charities, foundations, socially conscious corporations and fundraisers. In 2003, the boards of both organizations proposed an alliance, recognizing a substantial overlap in membership and advocacy objectives. The following year, their members and stakeholders endorsed a vision of a Canada where "strong and vital charities and nonprofit organizations, the private sector and governments work together for social progress and vibrant communities. Imagine Canada poursuit sur la lancée de la glorieuse histoire de deux porte-paroles de premier plan du secteur de la bienfaisance et sans but lucratif du Canada : le Centre canadien de philanthropie (CCP) et le Regroupement des organisations nationales bénévoles (ONB). Fondé en 1974, l'ONB était le porte-parole du secteur bénévole en matière de défense des intérêts et de politiques publiques. Le CCP a été créé en 1981 pour soutenir l'œuvre des organismes de bienfaisance, des fondations, des entreprises animées par leur conscience sociale et des collecteurs de fonds. En 2003, comme un grand nombre de personnes adhèrent au CCP et à l'ONB et que ces deux organismes partagent de nombreux objectifs en matière de défense des intérêts, leurs conseils d'administration ont tiré les conclusions de cette redondance et ont proposé de constituer une alliance. The United Way-Centraide Movement had its roots in Canada in early part of the 20th century. At that time, Catholic, Protestant and Jewish charities began to raise funds to strengthen their communities. Over the years, the United Way-Centraide was known as the Red Feather, the Community Chest, and the United Appeal. In the 1970s, these organizations adopted the name of United Way and Centraide. United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada(UWC-CC) is a national organization created in 1939 and supported by 126 member United Ways and Centraides(UWs-Cs) in Canada. It acts as a voice for the members within the Canadian voluntary sector and international level. In the next two years, Health Canada and Human Resources Development Canada, in conjunction with the voluntary sector, will develop a policy internships and academic fellowships pilot project. The internships would involve exchange initiatives between the government and the voluntary sector. This project will focus on placing voluntary sector employees as interns in national voluntary organizations working jointly with federal government departments on policy issues. Interns would work primarily on policy files that would help to enhance the capacity of the voluntary sector. The academic fellowships will be developed to focus on policy-relevant research that directly relates to the voluntary sector. These internships and fellowships would provide specific knowledge, skills and expertise required by both the sector and government. Au cours des deux années à venir, Santé Canada et Développement des ressources humaines Canada, de concert avec le secteur bénévole, mettront au point un projet pilote de stages et de bourses d'études en élaboration de politiques. Les stages consisteront en des échanges entre le gouvernement et le secteur bénévole. Ce projet aura pour objet de trouver à des employés du secteur bénévole des places de stage au sein d'organismes bénévoles nationaux travaillant conjointement avec des ministères fédéraux sur des questions de politiques. Les stagiaires travailleront surtout sur des dossiers stratégiques qui aideront à renforcer les moyens d'action du secteur bénévole. Grâce aux bourses d'études, des chercheurs pourront se concentrer sur des recherches en matière de politiques se rapportant directement au secteur bénévole.
