The Mission of the Pet Therapy Society is to provide to the community safe and effective animal assisted activities and programs. The Pet Therapy Society of Northern Alberta was created to provide the benefits of the human-animal bond that is well documented in medical, psychological and social literature. While the focus is on the human-animal relationship, other aspects including environmental issues, personal health and safety, and cooperative learning may also be associated. [The members] dedicate and volunteer [their] off-duty firefighting hours towards raising funds and awareness for the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Centre at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta. This fundraising ensures that money is available for upgrades, as necessary, to the highly specialized equipment. It also provides the burn unit health care team with opportunities to attend continuing education programs to remain current in new treatment techniques. The Alberta Powerlifting Union(APU) is a provincial affiliate to the Canadian Powerlifting Union(CPU). It is a completely non-profit and volunteer organization regulating both 3-lift Powerlifting and Bench Press Only within the province of Alberta. This can only be achieved by a significant reduction in both the number of occurrences of violence and the severity or impact of such violence.
