The United Nations University(UNU) project on "Natural Disaster Risk Management" places natural disaster management within the context of sustainable development. During the year, work was carried out to finalize a theoretical framework for the analysis of social vulnerability and its inclusion into disaster management planning. This novel concept was tested in a pilot phase and presented to scientific audiences in workshops organized in China, Fiji and Germany. In the next phase, the project will begin applying the framework in several case studies.
