In people with diabetes, too much blood sugar can damage the tiny blood vessels at the back inner wall of the eye, called the retina, or block those vessels completely. This condition is diabetic retinopathy. Tiny bulges, called microaneurysms, form in the blood vessels, leaking fluid into the retina. The fluid can cause swelling in a part of the retina called the macula. This serious eye problem is diabetic macular edema. It can cause vision problems or blindness.

A pocket connection is typically used when the wall below(i. e., foundation wall) continues to the story above the floor level without a change in wall thickness. The pocket connection consists of a void or "pocket" created in the wall by changing block placement or cutting into the block units after the walk is erected. The bearing surface on which the joists(or girders) bear typically is grouted solid creating a horizontal reinforced bond beam that ties together the walls in the story below. Light-frame builders may not be familiar with ledger and pocket connections. Such connections typically do not find much use in light-frame construction. However, ledger and pocket connections are not new to the building industry. For example, wood floor-to-masonry ledger and pocket connections were used in the United States during the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s in residential masonry homes and continue to perform satisfactorily.

The shovel shear test provides information about the location where the snow could fail in shear. It is best applied for identification of buried weak layers and does not usually produce useful results in layers close to the snow surface. Soft snow near the surface is better tested with the tilt board and the shear frame or an improvised version of this tilt test.

Shovel Shear Test. This test can be done on a flat or on a slope. With good technique, the location of weak layers, even thin weak layers, can be found. First dig a hole or pit in the snow. The vertical wall of the pit should be straight up and down, and smooth. Make a mark on the uphill portion of one corner of your pit with your shovel blade. This will mark the boundaries of your column, which should be roughly 30 cm by 30 cm or 12 inches square.(A) Now, cut both sides using a snow saw or your ski, all the way to the floor of the pit making sure that the cuts are straight.(B) The back of the column should only be cut as deep as your shovel blade is long, so measure with your shovel blade(C) and then cut the back.(D) Next, insert your shovel, blade down, in the back cut of the column and pull gently and evenly forward being careful not to lever your shovel handle.(E) Examine the shear layer where the block failed.(F) The force applied to the shovel that causes a weak layer to shear from the layers surrounding it can be rated as follows : Very easy... Easy... Moderate... Hard...

The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber.
