The Mast Camera, or Mastcam for short, will take color images and color video footage of the Martian terrain. The images can be stitched together to create panoramas of the landscape around the rover. Like the cameras on the Mars Exploration Rovers that landed on the red planet in 2004, the Mastcam design consists of two camera systems mounted on a mast extending upward from the Mars Science Laboratory rover deck(body). The Environmental Monitoring Division participates in the international marine program and specifically the systems for marine and ocean observation and data collection project. With the support of the Canadian Coast Guard/Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the division maintains a network of nine moored ODAS(Ocean Data Acquisition Systems) buoys along the coasts of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. The buoys collect and transmit hourly weather and sea state data 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Data is transmitted to the GOES satellite then relayed to earth stations where it is entered into the Global Telecommunications System(GTS). La Division de la surveillance de l'environnement participe à un programme international d'observation et, en particulier, à un projet d'observation et de collecte de données en mer. La Division a un réseau de neuf bouées SADO (Système d'acquisition de données océaniques) ancrées le long des côtes de Terre-Neuve et de la Nouvelle-Écosse, qu'elle entretient avec l'appui de la Garde côtière canadienne et de Pêches et Océans. Ces bouées recueillent des données sur l'état de la mer et les transmettent toutes les heures, 24 heures sur 24 et sept jours sur sept. The Meteorological Data Collection and Reporting System(MDCRS) is designed to support improved weather forecasting, particularly for upper-air wind and severe weather. First developed for the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Weather Service in 1991, the system collects and organizes up to 28, 000 real time, automated position and weather reports per day from participating aircraft.
