Conjunctivae :... Total maximum=20. The maximum total score(110) is the sum of all scores obtained for the cornea, iris and conjunctivae. NB : A test score may result in a fraction [as shown in the above example 67. 7/110] because of the fact that it represents the average of all the animals in the test group.

A financial conditions index(FCI) is a weighted average of financial variables. The weights are determined using regression analysis according to the impact of a given variable on economic activity. Downward movements in the FCI capture tighter financial conditions, which are therefore consistent with weaker economic activity; upward movements represent improving financial conditions, which would be consistent with stronger economic activity.

Exchange(intermediate, fast, slow, chemical and conformational) : Exchange is a kinetic process between two(or more) states that is characterized by a rate constant. In NMR [nuclear magnetic resonance] spectroscopy, exchange is classified into fast, intermediate and slow depending on the size of the rate constant with respect to chemical shift(which is measured in the same units(Hz) as the rate constant). In the fast exchange regime, the rate is much larger than the difference in chemical shift between the two states and the NMR signal will be at the weighted average position of the two states. In slow exchange, signals for both states are observable and the intensities are proportional to the populations of the two states. When calculating borrowings, the IBRD [International Bank for Reconstruction and Development] takes the amount of the loan, multiplies it by the interest rate, and obtains a total for the interest. All the loans are added and all the interest totals. The first sum is then divided by the second to obtain the weighted average interest. This is the single-weighted borrowing cost. Recently, the IBRD has obtained the interest total by multiplying the amount of the loan by the interest and the number of years to maturity, to take into account the fact that it has loans of varying maturities. The weighted averaged interest obtained from this calculation is called the double-weighted borrowing cost.

Fiber Length. Traditionally, the fiber length distribution or weighted average fiber length of a pulp sample has been determined either by microscopic examination of a representative number of fibers, by means of a special drainage grid, or by screen classification of a sample into different length fractions.... In the classification method, a dilute suspension of fibers is made to flow at high velocity parallel to screen slots, while a much slower velocity passes through the slots. In this way, the fibers are presented lengthwise to a series of selected screens with successively smaller mesh openings, and only the fibers short enough to bridge the openings pass into the next chamber. The pulp sample is typically divided into five length fractions.

The steps in the estimation procedure are the following.
