The increasing concentration of 1,2-DCP detected in Village production wells concerned SWDO’s Division of Drinking and Ground Water (DDAGW). In the summer of 1997, DDAGW requested that Ripley take action to reduce the concentration of 1,2-DCP to below 5.0 µg/l. Failure to do so would lead to requirements for costly treatment. The most viable option for the village was determined to be the installation of a interception well as a temporary method to capture the 1,2-DCP plume before it reaches the well field.

Ripple control generally refers to systems that are applied to electrical networks for demand side management purposes. They offer a means of communication from a central point to any point on the LV [Low-Voltage] network for action at end-users’ premises. Short radius technique was used by Gas Resources Institute(GRI)/Resource Enterprises, Inc. in the No. 3 Deep Seam gas well drilled into the Cameo "D" Coal Seam, Piceance Basin, Colorado. The Department of Energy and GRI used medium radius technique successfully at their Rocky Mountain No. 1 site in the Hanna Basin, Wyoming, targeting the Hanna coal seam at 363 foot depth.
