La comptabilité sociale conduit au bilan social, document récapitulant les principales donnés chiffrées qui permettent d'apprécier la situation de l'entité dans le domaine social, d'enregistrer les réalisations effectuées et de mesurer les changements intervenus au cours de l'année écoulée. En France, le bilan social résulte d'une exigence légale et il contient notamment des données portant sur l'emploi, la rémunération, les conditions d'hygiène et de sécurité, la formation, les relations professionnelles et les autres conditions de vie relevant de l'entreprise. Toute cette information porte, en France, le nom d'information sociale.
