The process whereby text is displayed above a stage in a theatre or opera house to provide the audience with information about the performance or a translation of the dialogue.

Surtitling(or supertitling) began rather slowly for opera in the West in the 1980s but by 2000 was standard practice in many opera houses because it is democratic and, crucially, now easy to accomplish. The translation of drama is a deeply complex enterprise but with surtitles a further burden is placed on the translator by the need for instant communication with the spectator. One of the most stringent criteria is length. At two lines of about forty characters for each title, space is at a premium, forcing the translator to look for a highly concise means of expression.

Summer fallow is the practice of keeping land free of all vegetation throughout one season for the purpose of storing a part of the rainfall of that period in the soil for the use of crops the following year. Summer fallow has been practiced in various parts of the world for several centuries, and to a limited extent in some sections of western United States since the country was settled. It is a common practice in the light-rainfall sections of Canada and of the Pacific Northwest at the present time.

The Five nations refer to themselves as the "Hotinonsonni" which translated into English means "The People of the Longhouse". The French used the term "Iroquois Confederacy" while the British used the term "Six Nations Confederacy" when referring to the Hotinonsonni... The Hotinonsonni allied themselves into one League. They compared themselves to a long bark house, where there would be five fireplaces, but all would form one family. The Mohawks are the keepers of the eastern door of that Longhouse. The Onondagas, in the centre, are the firekeepers, and they are the capital of the League. The Senecas are keepers of the western door.
