Wheat leaf rust(Puccinia recondita) occurs annually on wheat throughout Canada. It is present in many physiologic forms which has made the attainment of stable disease resistance difficult to achieve. Sur la feuille apparaissent de petites pustules rondes (diamètre 1 à 2 mm), le plus souvent disséminées sur la feuille. Autour de ces amas de spores, il y a souvent une auréole vert clair. (...) Although Thatcher never reached the prominence of Marquis, it retained its importance much longer than Marquis. Since 1939 Thatcher has been Canada's most important variety. In 1954, about 69% of the wheat area of Western Canada was planted to this variety. Thatcher has been replaced gradually by new varieties that are more resistant to stem rust and leaf rust.
