In a portal axle, the axle shaft is above the wheel hub. At the ends of the axle is a more complex system of gears that translate motion downward to the wheel hub — an added step that allows the axle shaft to be higher than the center of the wheels. Essentially, the axle rotates on a higher plane than the wheels, which allows, among other things, for higher overall ground clearance.

GyroTorque Operating Principle. Gyroscopic reaction torque is generated when precessing a spinning rotor. A very common form of gyroscopic reaction is experienced when riding a bicycle, where the front wheel exhibits the properties of a gyroscopic rotor. If, as is too often the case, an off-balance torque is created by gravitational force, the rider intuitively counters the gravitational torque by turning the handle bar, which, in effect, amounts to precessing the rotor-like front wheel. The faster the bicycle is travelling, the greater is the spin of the front wheel and, hence, the smaller is the precession required to counter the off-balance torque. The operational advantages of GyroTorque result from a novel technique of generation and rectification of gyroscopic reaction torque from a rotor as it is applied to an input-independent output shaft.

Aileron control is supplemented by the flight spoilers which are controlled by the spoiler mixer. The spoiler mixer senses aileron movement and automatically provides the correct amount of spoiler deflection.

There are two lateral control mixers, one located in each main gear wheel well. The mixers allow the spoiler system to be operated by the speedbrake control lever, by the aileron control wheels, or by both simultaneously.... Each mixer consists of a bracket; a shaft supporting the aileron input drum, aileron output drum, and a spoiler cam; two cam follower arms; two spoiler sectors; and connecting links, cranks, and pushrods.
