A Canadian woman does not lose Canadian citizenship upon marriage to an alien, and an alien woman who marries a Canadian does not, by reason of the marriage, become a Canadian citizen. In the former case, if she has acquired her husband's nationality, the married woman may divest herself of Canadian citizenship by filing with the Secretary of State of Canada a declaration of alienage and she shall thereupon cease to be a Canadian citizen. In the latter case, an alien woman must apply to the court for a certificate of citizenship. During the International Year of Volunteers 2001, Human Resources Development Canada announced the launch of the Thérèse Casgrain Volunteer Award. The purpose of this award is to commemorate the work of Thérèse Casgrain and honour those who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment of volunteering. The award is presented annually to two Canadians, one man and one woman. Beginning in 1992 and culminating in 2004, the Rotman Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards paid tribute to Canada's most successful female entrepreneurs for their important contributions to the economy. The program was an initiative of the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and BMO Financial Group. The purpose of these Awards was to provide national recognition to Canada's women entrepreneurs, whose successful businesses and achievements contribute so much to the Canadian and global economies as well as to their communities. De 1992 à 2004, les Prix canadiens de l'entrepreneuriat féminin Rotman ont rendu hommage aux femmes entrepreneurs qui se sont le plus démarquées au Canada par leurs importantes contributions à l'économie. Le programme était une initiative de la Rotman School of Management de l'Université de Toronto et de BMO Groupe financier.
