Addiction Services of Thames Valley is a community based service, funded by the Provincial Ministry of Health, MOHLTC. Our agency operates in co-operation with local addiction agencies, the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health, the Thames Valley District Health Council, and many other community services. We provide early intervention to persons who are concerned about substance use and/or problem gambling; assess individuals in Elgin, Oxford and Middlesex Counties who have an alcohol and/or drug related problem or problem gambling; develop treatment plans for clients and assist with referrals to provide community treatment & aftercare; provide consultation to employers, families, professionals and others concerned about alcohol use, drug use or problem gambling; participate in the development of the addiction system; our assessment forms the basis for a comprehensive treatment plan, referrals to appropriate treatment services and aftercare subsequent to treatment; provide the Back on Track program for convicted impaired drivers in Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford counties; assist pregnant and Parenting women who are substance-involved in a new program called "Heartspace". This program focuses on both the needs of the woman and the child in an all female environment. An International Development Research Centre(IRDC) Project. "In the Philippines, it is usually women who decide on and buy agro-chemicals for the farm. Filipina researchers have been introducing rural women to a new system of integrated pest management(IPM), an environmentally and economically sound way to control agricultural pests. IPM involves using resistant varieties of crops, better water and fertilizer management, and need-based application of environmentally sensitive and less toxic pesticides. Des chercheurs philippins ont décidé d'initier les femmes de milieu rural à une nouvelle méthode de lutte intégrée, une façon écologique et économique de lutter contre les ravageurs des cultures. The Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research is a collaboration between Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation, a charitable trust established to assist victims of family violence, the University of New Brunswick, community-based organizations and government. Research from this Centre looks mainly at woman abuse/violence against women, specifically on rural issues, dating violence, immigrant communities, Aboriginal communities, substance abuse and sexual harassment. In the area of child abuse and neglect, research focuses on developing peaceful environments in schools, anger development and children in foster care. Le Centre Muriel McQueen Fergusson pour la recherche sur la violence familiale est le fruit d'une collaboration entre la Fondation Muriel McQueen Fergusson, une fiducie de bienfaisance créée pour aider les victimes de la violence familiale, l'Université du Nouveau-Brunswick, des organismes communautaires et le gouvernement. Les recherches réalisées à ce Centre portent principalement sur la violence faite aux femmes, et plus particulièrement sur les problèmes du milieu rural, la violence dans les fréquentations, les collectivités d'immigrants, les communautés autochtones, la consommation abusive d'alcool et d'autres drogues et le harcèlement sexuel. The Centre for Research and Education on Women and Work was established at Carleton University, School of Business, in 1992 to facilitate both research and education on women and work. The Centre supports research on the issues that women face in the workplace and offers a Management Development Program for Women. The Centre is guided by an Advisory Board and supported by a full-time administrator. In August 1997, in Lima, Peru, the International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development co-hosted a democratic development forum, "Constructing a Culture of Peace in Peru". This project is based among the Masai people in Kajiado District, Kenya. Working with men and women of all ages, the project provides opportunities for people to use their environmental understanding to generate income through activities like ecotourism, efficient charcoal making, ostrich rearing, and arts and crafts. As well, there are activities designed to improve housing and offer education programs for local youth. Le Programme d'aménagement de l'écosystème Elangata Wuas est mis en place parmi les populations de Masais du district Kényan de Kajiado. Associant hommes et femmes de tout âge, le projet est l'occasion de comprendre les maintes façons de tirer parti d'un milieu de vie particulier pour stimuler l'économie. Les activités proposées sont nombreuses : écotourisme, nouvelles techniques de fabrication du charbon de bois, élevage des autruches et artisanat; d'autres volets prévoient l'amélioration du logement et des programmes d'éducation offerts aux jeunes.
