As one of eleven large-scale working model forests, representing the five major forest ecoregions of Canada, the EOMF works with government, landowners, industry. First Nations and other stakeholders to develop new ways to sustain and manage our forest resources. The EOMF covers 1. 5 million hectares, from the Counties of Leeds and Lanark, to the Quebec border and St. Lawrence River. However, it is not a woodland in the traditional sense as 34% of the region is actually forested. En tant qu'une des onze forêts modèles à grande échelle représentant les six principales écorégions forestières du Canada, la FMEO travaille conjointement avec les gouvernements, les propriétaires fonciers, les industries, les Premières Nations et les autres intervenants afin de développer de nouveaux moyens d'assurer la durabilité et l'aménagement de nos ressources forestières. La FMEO s'étend sur une superficie de 1,5 million d'hectares, des Comtés de Leeds et Lanark, à la frontière québécoise jusqu'au fleuve St-Laurent. Cependant, il ne s'agit pas d'une région boisée dans le sens traditionnel car les terrains boisés recouvrent seulement 34 pour cent de la région.
