CONT

What do inorganic chemists do? Inorganic chemists are employed in fields ranging from mining to microchips. Their work is based on understanding : The behavior and analogues for inorganic elements, and; How these materials can be modified, separated, and used. Specific work may include : Developing methods to recover metals from waste streams; Working as an analytical chemist in the analysis of mined ores; Performing research on the use of inorganic chemicals for treating soil. Many inorganic chemists work in industry, but they also work in academic institutions and government labs. Inorganic chemists who work in government say their time is increasingly spent writing grant proposals and competing for research money.

Usually, a ladder allows fish to swim past a barrier aided by river water flowing in from the top.... work is being done to create an artificial stream of water through the fish ladder. Starting with a series of large pumps supplying water or "attractant flow[, "] fish looking for an alternative route over the slide will be lured upstream into the pools. As fish swim further, they will end up in a holding pool at the same elevation as the fish pump. The use of a fish ladder encourages "volitional entry[, "] or natural fish behavior whereby they willingly enter the pneumatic fish pump.

Alenia Aeronautica and Targetti have realized a simulator which is able to reproduce the lighting conditions present when flying at an altitude of 10000 meters, inside a real airplane.... In fact, being able to realistically reproduce natural light opens the way to potentially infinite applications : from the assessment of architectural models to studying the lighting "behavior" of materials and surfaces, to various design requirements, including aircraft instrumentation legibility tests at high quotas, which has been the particular focus of the work carried out by Alenia and Targetti. According to international regulations, aeronautical instrumentation displays, especially those of military aircraft with transparent cockpits, must be approved by tests which involve actually flying the airplane in order to assess performance in real lighting conditions. The costs and risks are obvious as is the value of creating a system which can recreate the light conditions of an aircraft in flight while it is still on the ground.

The goal of having an implemented process model of expertise is an interesting constraint for the definition of the subject matter. For a model to be operational, knowledge cannot be merely enunciated and explained : it must be put to work. Thus, all the knowledge critical to the target behavior has to be captured in the model of expertise, including the knowledge required for appropriately using knowledge. The fact that this model must be able to solve the same problems the student will eventually learn to solve ensures that, at some level of epistemic fidelity, it is complete.

CONT

In the representation of the subject matter, process models have been used to simulate two types of processes: 1) to model the phenomena the student has to understand, such as electronic circuits in SOPHIE and rainfall in WHY, 2) to model parts of the actual reasoning process the student learns to perform (ACTP tutors).

CONT

Unstable bond liable to frequent disruptions of subject's affectional behavior with someone else. Possible cause : lack of commitment on the part of at least one of the parties to "work things out".

OBS

For example alcoholics of long standing seem to undergo an almost unlimited number of troubles in their home lives and still maintain the urge to renew relationships or form new ones after the most severe emotional upheavals. Hence, the term "erratic relationship" implies several changes in partners, due to a lack of consistency, regularity, or uniformity in behaviour of the person who appears to have difficulty in settling down. An erratic relationship between 2 persons may also be one in which the level of commonality fluctuates during periods of stress. A man suffering from oppressive stress at work will let his relationship with his partner suffer. The partner reacts negatively and leaves, causing a rift. Once the stress has subsided, the couple once again attempts to rebuild on the commonality, only to fall apart subsequently when other stressors interfere in the process. Given the repetitive cycle of the phenomenon, the relationship is said to be erratic or unstable. Other key terms & expressions : unsettled, unpredictability, liable to change. Not to be confused with "erratic behavior".
