The three main objectives of the CBD are[:] the conservation of biological diversity; the sustainable use of the components of biological diversity; and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources.

The Convention on Biological Diversity provides a global legal framework for action on biodiversity. It brings together the Parties in the Conference of the Parties(COP), which is the Convention's governing body that meets every two years, or as needed, to review progress in the implementation of the Convention, to adopt programmes of work, to achieve its objectives and provide policy guidance.

Uno de los acuerdos fundamentales aprobados en Río fue el Convenio sobre la Diversidad Biológica. Este pacto entre la gran mayoría de los gobiernos mundiales establece los compromisos de mantener los sustentos ecológicos mundiales a medida que avanzamos en el desarrollo económico. El Convenio establece tres metas principales: la conservación de la diversidad biológica, la utilización sostenible de sus componentes y la distribución justa y equitativa de los beneficios derivados de la utilización de los recursos genéticos.

By the second half of the 1960s the attention of the international community was already focused on chemical and biological weapons... Most of the diplomatic work on chemical and biological weapons was conducted within the Eighteen Nations Disarmament Committee(ENDC), a body established in Geneva in 1961 with responsibility for conducting multilateral disarmament negotiations. The membership of this body was later enlarged several times, and its name was consequently changed, first to the Conference of the Committee on Disarmament(CCD), then to the Committee on Disarmament and, finally, to the Conference on Disarmament(CD).

In 1961, the Ten-Nation Committee on Disarmament, meeting at Geneva, became the Eighteen-Nation Disarmament Committee, and consideration of the test-ban issue was moved to that Committee in 1962.

Part of the Canada-United States Transportation Border Working Group(TBWG). This subcommittee was formed in Spring 2003 to take a multi-jurisdictional approach to the identification of various data needs, and explore opportunities to work collaboratively for data collection activities. There have been several bi-national meetings(usually held in conjunction with TBWG plenary meetings), a Border Data Workshop and numerous conference calls. Sucommittee activities are coordinated by an overarching steering committee, which is currently chaired by the U. S. Federal Highway Administration. We have also established several smaller working subcommittees that were tasked with taking charge of the outcomes of the Border Data Workshop and developing various products/joint activities.

Relève du Groupe de travail sur les questions frontalières de transport du Canada et des États-Unis (GTQFT). Ce sous-comité a été créé au printemps 2003 pour adopter une approche multigouvernementale de la définition des divers besoins en données et d'examiner les occasions de recueillir des données en collaboration. Il y a eu plusieurs réunions binationales (tenues d'ordinaire en même temps que les réunions plénières du GTQFT), un atelier sur les données frontalières et de nombreuses téléconférences. Les activités du Sous-Comité sont coordonnées par un comité directeur général, que la Federal Highway Administration des États-Unis préside actuellement. Nous avons aussi constitué plusieurs sous-comités de travail plus petits pour qu'ils donnent suite à l'atelier sur les données frontalières et mettent au point divers produits et diverses activités communes.

The Dene Cultural Institute was created at the first Dene Cultural Conference, July 26-30, 1986. Two Hundred people from twenty-six communities, representing more than fourteen thousand members of the Dene Nation, came together in Lutsel K’e(formerly Snowdrift), a small community on the shores of Great Slave Lake. They had one concern : to stop the steady erosion and the potential loss of their culture. During the meeting the representatives decided to create the Dene Cultural Institute. A Board of Directors was chosen and given the mandate to develop the new organization. The mission or purpose of the Dene Cultural Institute is :"To work with the people of the Dene Nation, and with other organizations, to preserve, protect, and promote the Dene culture, languages, spirituality, heritage, traditions and customs. "
