A fabric treatment process, through which the fabric or yarn is immersed in a caustic soda solution and later neutralized in acid... process [which] causes a permanent swelling of the fiber, resulting in an increased luster on the surface of the fabric, an increased affinity for dyes, and increased strength.

A treatment of cotton yarn or fabric to increase its luster and affinity for dyes. The material is immersed under tension in a cold sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) solution in warp or skein form or in the piece, and is later is neutralized in acid. The process causes a permanent swelling of the fiber and thus increasing its luster.

Mercerizing with ammonia. The treatment of cellulose with liquid ammonia is far less harsher than with concentrated caustic soda solutions. Fibre fitness is another important fibre character affecting yarn strength. It gives number of fibres in the cross-section of yarn. Better the fineness of cotton, more would be the number of fibres per cross-section resulting in higher yarn strength. When other characteristics are same, fine fibres will produce a yarn of higher strength than coarse fibres.

Generic name for a family of polyamide polymers characterized by the presence of the amide group-CONH.

Nylon is chemical composition consisting basically of petroleum, air and water-Manufacturing nylon, however, is a complicated process. A molten polymer is extruded and forced through tiny holes to produce nylon filament fibres of various diameters. These filaments are "drawn" and twisted, to form yarns. In so doing the long superpolymer molecules are lined up into an orderly, parallel arrangement. This gives nylon yarn its strength, elasticity and lustre.

Woven fabrics are mostly of simple construction such as the plain weave... in simple construction there is only one set of warp yarns(the lengthwise yarn) and one set of weft yarns(the cross-wise yarn) making up the fabric, and all are equally responsible for the strength and appearance of the fabric. Patterns and effects are obtained by using various coloured yarns, different size yarns... The simplest of weaves is the plain weave. Each weft yarn passes alternately over and under each wrap yarn. They are reversible, unless printed or finished, are of firm construction and wear well.
