Since 1950, World Health Day has been celebrated every year on 7 April with a different theme. Each theme reflects a priority area of current concern to WHO. The sumo ring is called the dohyo and takes its name from the straw rice bag which mark out its different parts. The greater portion of each bale is firmly buried in the earth. The dohyo is 18 feet square and 2 feet high and is constructed of a special kind of clay. The hard surface is covered with a thin layer of sand. The bout is confined to an inner circle a little over 15 feet in diameter. Liberation Day is celebrated each year on May 5 in the Netherlands to mark the end of the German occupation during the Second World War. The nation was liberated largely by Canadian troops. On May 5, 1945, the Canadian General Charles Foulkes and the German Commander-in-Chief Johannes Blaskowitz reached an oral agreement on the capitulation of Germany in Hotel De Wereld in Wageningen. One day later, the capitulation document was signed in the auditorium of the Agricultural University located next to the hotel. After the liberation in 1945 the decision was made that Liberation Day was going to be celebrated every 5 years. Earth Day Canada campaign. In the first year of this annual campaign, over two million Canadians will wear a green ribbon to commemorate Earth Day. Sponsorship and donations created by the campaign will be used to create much needed manuals and resources for community tree planting projects. One of the most popular Earth Day events, tree planting is an environmental action in itself. It is also a symbolic act that commemorates and reaffirms our environmental commitment. An estimated three million trees are planted to mark Earth Day in thousands of Canadian communities.
