A territory that entered the Canadian Confederation in 1898 as the "Yukon Territory", out of the District of Yukon created in 1895 in the Northwest Territories. Until 1999, the Yukon used to stand eleventh in the order of precedence established according to the year of entry into Confederation of the ten provinces, then of the territories, listed, by convention, before the Northwest Territories even if the latter entered Confederation 28 years before. It now stands twelfth, after the Northwest Territories and before Nunavut. On March 27, 2002, the name was changed to "Yukon" even if the status of territory remains.

The name of a territory and its form, spelling and abbreviation are to be decided by the provincial toponymy authority, with the agreement of the Government of Canada. One uses "Yukon" (or "territory of Yukon") for the geographical entity, "Yukon" for the provincial administration or as the short form, and "Yk." as the abbreviation to be officially recognized by the toponymic authority, a change from the previous "Y.T.".

Approved by ISO, the Canada Post two-character symbol is YT (or CA-YT), [to be changed to YK (or CA-YK) if a request to that extent is made and accepted]. If "Yukon" modifies another term, then the article is omitted. e.g. Yukon Indians comprise 25% of the population of the territory. If "Yukon" takes the inflected genitive (’s) , then the use of the article is optional. e.g. (the) Yukon’s wildlife resources; (the) Yukon’s native people. In every other case, the use of the definite article would be in keeping with common usage as it signals the absence of a generic geographic feature. Hence we say "the Mediterranean" (implied: Sea), "the Philippines" (implied: "Islands"). Currently, there is some debate as to the appropriateness of the definite article, all the more since "the Yukon" (implied: "territory") is seeking political parity with the other established "provinces" (statement of 1991). [Usage can thus tend to drop the article as is the case before the name of a province.]

The advanced-passive reactor, the AP1000, is already a proven technology in the world.... Some 1, 300 man years of design and safety work has already been carried out on that type of design. In terms of fuel efficiency, the newer forms of nuclear reactor are some 10 times more economic than current counterparts-for each gigawatt of power produced, they require 30 tonnes of fuel per year, compared with 300 tonnes of the same fuel required by Magnox power stations. Those new designs are very safe and have a passive safety system, which is not reliant on electric pumps or other automated facilities as is the present case.

The sumo ring is called the dohyo and takes its name from the straw rice bag which mark out its different parts. The greater portion of each bale is firmly buried in the earth. The dohyo is 18 feet square and 2 feet high and is constructed of a special kind of clay. The hard surface is covered with a thin layer of sand. The bout is confined to an inner circle a little over 15 feet in diameter. Over the dohyo suspended from the ceiling by cables is a roof resembling a Shinto shrine with four giant tassels hanging from each corner to signify the seasons of the year.

Service calls for the Pacific, Western and Ontario regions are administered through a 1-800 number out of Toronto, Ontario, on a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year basis. Although the CLF was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues.... Pre-1936. World Tuberculosis Day, falling on 24 March each year, is designed to build public awareness that tuberculosis today remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of several million people each year, mostly in the third world. 24 March commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch astounded the scientific community by announcing that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus. At the time of Koch's announcement in Berlin, TB was raging through Europe and the Americas, causing the death of one out of every seven people. Koch's discovery opened the way toward diagnosing and curing tuberculosis.

A nationwide scheme has begun on Dartmoor to conserve the country's dozen rarest breeds of horse. The Rare Breeds Survival Trust began collecting semen form 10 Dartmoor ponies on Widecombe-in-the-Moor on Wednesday. About 1, 000 stallions from rare breeds across the UK will be evaluated over the next five to eight years. The programme was launched a year ago, after the foot-and-mouth outbreak put many breeds at risk of dying out. Vulnerable breed : So far, £750, 000 of the £2. 5m target has been raised. The trust hopes to create semen banks for each rare breed to protect against future threats to the bloodline. Dartmoor ponies are categorised as "vulnerable" by the trust, with many bloodlines in danger.

The surrounding structure will be "mocked up" to represent a typical ISS structure and ISS procedures will be used for the changeout.

The "Microgravity" and "Standard" operational modes are the primary modes for carrying out research activities on the ISS [International Space Station]. These two modes have been specifically defined to optimise the gravity environment of the ISS for user research activities. The Microgravity Mode, as the name suggests, provides the most optimised microgravity environment. The Microgravity Mode has been defined to ensure that : 50% of the International Standard Payload Rack locations within the European Columbus, Destiny and Japanese Kibo laboratories must have quasi-steady state accelerations less than 1 micro-g for at least 30 days continuously, on six occasions each year".

Mode changes are usually controlled by the ground controller or by on-orbit crew input commands, but the transition to survival mode may be automatically initiated by the ISS. ... In the microgravity mode, user payload operations for microgravity research are supported. Factors that affect the ageing of building materials are UV light, temperature, and moisture from RH, precipitation and driving rain. UV radiation probably contributed most to the degradation of the coating and the substrate. Much research is done on the performance of materials due to ageing both by artificial ageing(accelerated) and natural weathering condition(field exposure) of the material. Ahola(1993) studied the effect of ageing on the water vapour permeability and found that the water vapour permeability decreased when exposed to the natural climate for one year. This was interpreted as due to loss of residual solvent, leaching out of low-molecular-mass components, viscous flow of a binder and migration of emulsifiers to the surface.

Park is open year-round and the Rogers Pass Information Centre is open 5 days a week. There are 2 campgrounds in the park containing 77 campsites. Glacier also has some designated backcountry camping areas as well as areas where random camping is allowed. Visitors should check with the park in advance of their trip to find out what services are provided. It is 70 kms east of Revelstoke, B. C. and 80 kms west of Golden, B. C. The Centre is open daily, mid-May through September and December through March, the remainder of the year the Centre is open 5 days a week.
