The lines agree on a set of freight rates and any special rates for shippers and each line charges the same as the others. The ships used are of types suitable for the trade. Unlike tramp shipping where freight rates are a function of daily supply and demand, conference rates are relatively stable : base rates are altered by means of a general rate increase which in many cases is once a year. Lines in a conference are governed by the rules of membership which may include rights to load or discharge at certain ports and pooling of cargo.

From 1971 to 1981, this set of coins was marketed as the "Regular Set". First singly-struck, then double-struck since 1977, it was given the same brilliant, polished finish. In 1981, it was once again named the "Uncirculated Set".

This election simulation scenario is designed to introduce children to the main principles of a real election. The teacher (or leader) chooses the candidates from among the following five characters: Charlie the Raven; Desneiges the Polar Bear; Max the Walrus; Neevee the Caribou; Sam the Grey Wolf. All the members of the group vote in secret for one of the candidates. The activity lasts an average of 45 to 55 minutes. After the election, the participants should be familiar with the rudiments of electoral terminology, know how to fill out a ballot, and understand that voting is simple, easy and important.

The International Military Sports Council, known by its acronym "CISM", is an international sports association composed of the armed forces of member nations accepted by the General Assembly. CISM is open to the armed forces of all nations. The aims of CISM are to develop friendly relations between the Armed Forces of member nations, promote physical education and sports activities, provide mutual technical assistance, support less privileged members in the name of friendship and solidarity, contribute towards the balanced and harmonious development of military personnel, and contribute to the international effort for universal peace. On May 1946, the Allied Forces Sports Council was set up, namely by Colonel Debrus and Major Mollet who were among the founding fathers of CISM two years later. Unfortunately, because of political discord, the Allied Forces Sports Council was extinguished in 1947. However, the ideal was rekindled the following year with the founding of CISM and the rise of a global vision.

This program consists of a 16 hour course with the main objective of separating the acts of drinking and driving. In an average year the Centre puts 4 to 6 of these courses with anywhere from 30 to 50 participants overall. S. Lab, Columbus and the JEM must have quasi-steady accelerations below 1 ug for periods of 30 continuous days a total of 6 times per year. The operation of the Station in Microgravity Mode is designed to produce these 30 day intervals. The quasi-steady acceleration vector has an additional directional stability requirement stating that the component perpendicular to the vector's orbital average must be less than or equal to 0. 2 [mu] g. To meet this requirement the Station's attitude must be controlled during orbit so that it maintains a constant position relative to the LVLH [Local Vertical/Local Horizontal] axes.

The quasi-steady state acceleration level is determined primarily by the combined effects of atmospheric drag (due to the finite residual Earth’s atmosphere at the orbital altitude of the ISS), and gravity gradient stabilisation of the ISS. Gravity gradient stabilisation uses the principle that a body in orbit around the Earth will tend to rotate about it’s centre of mass, as each part of the body will tend to follow it’s own orbit. It will normally oscillate about a mean orientation, but will eventually remain in a stable orientation with respect to the Earth. The normal orientation for the ISS is the Torque Equilibrium Attitude discussed earlier. The resultant combination of atmospheric drag, gravity gradient and other secondary effects produce a set of gravity contours (i.e., locations of equal gravity level) which define the quasi-steady state microgravity environment of the ISS.
