A cutback is a surfing maneuver with which you change your direction on the rail by going back to the breaking part of the wave. See, when you’re at full speed, there's a big chance that you’re getting away from the breaking wave and heading towards the flat spots of the shoulder that don’t have the intrinsic power to carry you. So, you’ll lose speed, and you’ll need to get back to the wave to gain as much speed as you can. That's when you should perform a cutback. In that sense, a cutback isn’t only an aesthetic move, as it gets you back to the power source of the wave : its curl.

A test used to diagnose benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) that consists of a series of head, neck, and body movements that reproduce the vertigo sensation.

The Dix-Hallpike test is typically performed in a doctor's office. The doctor will ask you to sit upright on an exam table with your legs stretched out in front of you and your head turned to one side. They will then ask you to lower your head and torso back so that you end up lying with your head stretched off the edge of the exam table, turned with one ear down at a 45-degree angle. If there are misplaced calcium deposits(also called canaliths) in the posterior canal of your inner ear, this will trigger vertigo symptoms.

Benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of vertigo. The Dix-Hallpike maneuver is the gold standard test used to diagnose BPPV, which is crucial in confirming posterior canal BPPV.

The rack deadlift is a partial version of the conventional deadlift. You perform it inside a power rack with pins set so that the bar is located just above the knees. It is an excellent exercise for beginners–you don’t have to use a full ROM [range of movement], and having the rack is like using a spotter. Deadlifts from a racked position emphasize your low back muscles, because you won’t be bending as low and thereby incorporating your legs. Use this exercise to help strengthen the low back specifically or if you want to attempt heavier weights than you can lift from the floor.

Unlike a regular book though, it can contain links. A link lets you jump right to the topic page that you are looking for, such as a chapter page or subject page. This type of book can also play music or other sounds while you read. A neat feature is that a CD book can also contain videos, something a paper book could never do. If you find an interesting topic or page, you can also send this subject to your printer and have a hard copy for reference(like having an instant copy machine).

Skate Tips : Catamaran. Talk about a blast from the past, catamaraning can be a lot of fun, and it's real easy to do. All you need is a partner. What you do is you sit on your board sideways facing your partner, while your partner does the same. You turn by having the person on the turning side lean back, like he's on the trapeze of a catamaran. The person on the nonturning [side] leans in to help out with the turn.

There are two skateboarders set parallel to each other a couple of feet apart. Each one is equipped with a toochas pad for comfort and two handles for steering. The riders sit on the boards with their bodies facing each other, their legs resting on the other person's deck, and both looking in the direction of travel. Turning is accomplished by one person leaning back and pulling on their handles, at the same time the other person leans forward and pushes on theirs. There are no brakes.

MILES is a system the Army uses for wargames. You mount a small box, the transmitter, on the end of the barrel of your weapon, and wear a harness that has several straps on the front and back with infrared receptors on them. You also have a key that is normally in the transmitter to enable it. The transmitter has a microphone in it, and whenever a shot is fired, the sound causes it to fire a coded IR laser beam. The sensors on the harness are wired to a box on the back which detects when you have been hit. If you are, a beeper starts sounding loudly. To turn it off you have to take the key out of the transmitter, thus disabling it, and put it in a switch in the harness. Then you are "dead", and have to wait for an observer to come around with a special key that can reset the harness. They can also use the God gun, which is so called because it can fire pulses that will "kill" you like the other transmitters, but it can also fire pulses that reset your harness(bring you back to life...)

Waves are formed due to the friction of the wind over the water surface. The three main components for wave generation are the wind speed, it's duration and fetch.... How to recognise a swell/wave generating area. On a weather chart there are high and low pressure systems. They are separated by isobars(lines joining places of equal pressure). Buys Ballot's law states :"If you stand with your back to the wind in the northern hemisphere, the low pressure will be on your left. "From this you can deduce the wind flows anticlockwise around a low pressure system and almost parallel to the isobars. The wind near the surface actually flows at an angle of about 15 degrees to the isobars pointing in to the low. The reason for this is that friction with the surface slows the air down and it is this friction which causes waves to form. Assuming you have identified an area of closely packed isobars which are almost straight for 200 miles and the low system is not changing to quickly, you have found a good swell generating area.

Loading a log [on a trailer]. Loading is a two-step process. First, you rest the butt-end of the log on the lower support. Then, you use lifting tongs to raise the other end to the swivel. Make sure that the tongs are attached firmly to the log and that you bend your knees when you lift. The lever principle. By pushing on one end of the log, you can lever it into the trailer. Make sure you keep your back straight.

Chargement d'un billot [sur une remorque]. On commence par déposer le gros bout du billot sur le support inférieur. En prenant soin de bien plier les genoux et à l'aide d'une pince à lever qui agrippe solidement le billot, on en soulève l'autre extrémité pour la déposer sur le pivot. L'effet de bras de levier. En appuyant sur le bout du billot, on profite de l'effet de bras de levier pour charger le billot dans la remorque. Il est important de garder le dos droit durant ces opérations.
