During the Train to Train stage(females 11-15, males 12-16), young athletes need to build an aerobic base and consolidate their sport-specific skills. Towards the end of the stage, they need to focus on strength and the anaerobic alactic energy system. Increased training hours are needed at this stage to develop each athlete's long-term potential. The ages that define the Train to Train stage are based on the approximate onset and end of the adolescent growth spurt. This period is generally defined as ages 11 to 15 years for females and 12 to 16 years for males. At this stage, athletes are ready to consolidate their basic sport-specific skills and tactics. It is also a major fitness development stage. The Train to Train stage makes or breaks the athlete. Athletes may exhibit special talent, play to win, and do their best, but they still need to allocate more time to training skills and physical capacities than competing in formal settings.

There are seven stages within the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, each of them covering a different age span for boys and girls. They are as follows: Active Start, FUNdamental, Learn to Train, Train to Train, Train to Compete, Train to Win and Active for Life.

Symptoms : All aboveground plant parts may be affected. Large, light green leaf spots develop on the upper leaf surfaces. Under moist conditions, a white to gray moldy appears on the lower or upper leaf surfaces. Affected leaves may wilt, then die. If environmental conditions become unfavorable for downy mildew, plants may show recovery by developing healthy leaves, or other pathogens may be encouraged. During fall wet periods, most young petioles or leaves are covered with a fungal growth that often moves into the crown. Crown infections may permit other root-decay organisms to invade the plant. Crown infection causes excessive leaf proliferation which in turn causes misshapen bulbs.

Le mildiou de la betterave est une maladie des régions tempérées humides. Il se développe préférentiellement en conditions humides et relativement froides. Le champignon s'étend de façon systémique dans la plante et produit de nombreuses spores qui sont disséminées par la pluie. [Il] provoque un épaississement des feuilles du cœur. Ces feuilles s'enroulent et se couvrent, principalement à la face inférieure, d'un duvet violacé. Au cours de leur croissance, les feuilles extérieures pâlissent et se dessèchent.

Le terme utilisé en français est «mildiou de la betterave» même s'il est plus générique car le pathogène de cette maladie ne cause pas seulement le mildiou sur la betterave à sucre mais aussi sur les autres types de betteraves. Comme il s'agit de la même maladie (symptômes identiques), le français ne fait pas de distinction selon le type de betterave affectée.

Downy mildew of grape can be a serious disease in ... vineyards. This fungus disease develops whenever weather during the growing season is moist and temperatures are cool to moderate. The downy mildew fungus attacks leaves, fruit, shoots and tendrils. The disease may cause premature defoliation in mid to late summer that results in a weakening of the plant and reduced sugar content of the fruit.

On leaves, young infections appear as very small, greenish-yellow, translucent spots that are difficult to see. With time, the lesions enlarge and a white moldy growth composed of fungus threads(mycelium) and spores form on the undersides of the leaves. If lesions are numerous they may merge and cover most of the leaf. Infected leaves eventually turn brown, become dry and drop. Exposed berries may be scalded by the sun. If vines are defoliated before the ripening period, grapes may not mature normally.

The fungus causing downy mildew of cabbage also attacks other crucifers, such as cauliflower, collards, Chinese cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, and kohlrabi... The first symptoms of downy mildew are the formation of black specks and yellow-brown spots on the upper leaf surface, accompanied by the development of a fluffy mold growth on the lower surface. Young leaves may fall off when infected, and on older leaves, the spots may coalesce, producing large, sunken, tan spots. The disease can attack young seedlings or plants that have already headed. On older cabbage plants, the disease produces dark, sunken spots, which may appear purplish, on the head or wrapper leaves.

The stands of juvenile trees don’t need to be spaced the same distance that mature trees require, because there is an optimum spacing which encourages natural pruning of lower branches. Such natural pruning is a desirable energy saver for the land owner. Also, conifers have a growth habit built in, called geotrophism, which is what makes a tree grow vertically rather than just meandering crookedly up to its finished height. Using the force of geotrophism to advantage, we may just crowd our trees just enough to keep them reaching higher than a specimen tree with its bushy branching and its severly bushy habit. All this doesn’t give you a formula to work with though, so try this approach. You should thin most stands of juvenile age to intermediate age trees to about eight feet apart. Later, as the trees mature, they could be spaced even farther to as much as twelve feet apart.

The objective of this study was to describe the different morphological gradients being used as the basis for the development of the shape of the stem system in young forest-grown 7-year-old beeches... Three simple morphogenetic gradients explain the developmental dynamics of their overall stem system... Kniffin Training. This is the most popular training system in the eastern regions. The photograph in Plate VIII shows a young vine trained to the four-cane Kniffin form, just after it has been pruned. The vine consists of a trunk about four feet long, to reach to the top wire of a four-foot trellis. Near the head may be seen two canes and two spurs-the canes to produce the season's crop, and the spurs to produce the renewal wood for the subsequent season. At a point on the trunk near the lower wire, two canes with their spurs are also left. These lower canes are pruned somewhat shorter than the top canes, because the growth of their shoots tends to be less vigorous. Shoots from the eyes of the four canes droop downward(a normal way of growth for many of the native hybrids) forming a mantle of foliage for the fruit.(A Wine-Grower's Guide, 1965, p. 121).
