A territory that entered the Canadian Confederation in 1898 as the "Yukon Territory", out of the District of Yukon created in 1895 in the Northwest Territories. Until 1999, the Yukon used to stand eleventh in the order of precedence established according to the year of entry into Confederation of the ten provinces, then of the territories, listed, by convention, before the Northwest Territories even if the latter entered Confederation 28 years before. It now stands twelfth, after the Northwest Territories and before Nunavut. On March 27, 2002, the name was changed to "Yukon" even if the status of territory remains.

In Alaska and Canada there are apparently many criteria that can be used to establish when a newcomer has surpassed the status of Cheechako, and the most popular one seems to be the Cheechako's witnessing both the freezing of the rivers in the fall and, after the long winter, their break-up in the spring.

La rainette faux-grillon boréale mesure au plus 3,9 [centimètres] de longueur. Sa peau lisse est verte, brune ou grisâtre, parfois rougeâtre. Une bande foncée part de son museau, traverse ses yeux et longe ses flancs jusqu'à ses pattes arrière. Cette rainette a aussi une bande blanche et contrastante le long de sa lèvre supérieure. Son dos présente trois rayures qui sont souvent interrompues [...] Elle ressemble beaucoup à la rainette faux-grillon de l'Ouest (Pseudacris triseriata), mais ses pattes arrière sont proportionnellement plus courtes. Elle se déplace d’ailleurs par petits sauts plutôt que par grands bonds.
