Since March, 1998, senior officials have been acting as official languages champions in the departments and agencies. This mission is to make official languages more visible in their institutions and to ensure respect of the official languages obligations for institutional bilingualism(service to the public, language of work and equitable participation of English-speaking and French-speaking Canadians) and the development of the official language minority communities. Ils ont pour mission de rehausser la visibilité des langues officielles dans leur institution et de s'assurer que les obligations en matière des langues officielles sont respectées tant en ce qui concerne le bilinguisme institutionnel (service au public, langue de travail et participation équitable des Canadiens d'expression française et anglaise) que le développement des communautés de langue officielle en situation minoritaire.
