The initiation of the EARSEC programme saw the development of sophisticated airborne SAR and electro-optical sensors, requiring equally sophisticated software to provide end-users with reliable products. The SAR processors were seen as an opportunity to develop software that could easily be used by regular, non-specialist users, whilst retaining great flexibility to allow detailed tuning and configuration by more scientifically expert investigators.
