Le carnet de route est une pièce qui accompagne l'avion au même titre que le certificat d'immatriculation et le certificat de navigabilité. Le carnet de bord est à peu près semblable au carnet de route en ce qui a trait à son utilisation. Cette pièce doit être signée après chaque vol par le commandant de bord et par le responsable de l'entretien. Dans le cas d'Air Canada, la composition de l'équipage et le nombre de passagers n'y figurent pas.
