A navy shower is [an expression] used for a water-saving technique that was started in the Navy to help save precious freshwater aboard ships. The basic idea is to hop in the shower, get wet all over, turn off the water while soaping up, and then rinse clean. A kisbie ring in general is a piece of life saving equipment that almost all ships carry. We have 4 stations onboard fitted with smoke markers, kisbie rings and other equipment which lookouts throw overboard in the event of a man overboard. As a piece of rescue equipment, these are painted orange and have the ships name on them in black in accordance with Canadian and international law. When alongside in home or foreign port, we use our ceremonial kisbie rings... in the 4 stations for decoration. One of the most capable of all air tanker aircraft, the C-130 is used by numerous agencies. The C-130 is equipped with MAFFS, Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System. It is designed to quickly convert the aircraft into an air tanker. The system consists of a total of seven components aboard the aircraft plus a ground based air compressor. It is capable of being installed on the C-130 in about 120 minutes. Replenishment of compressed air and retardant is accomplished in a little over 15 minutes.
