A charting technique in technical analysis that, among other things, indicates the range of a day’s prices, the opening and closing prices and whether the market moved up or down during the trading session.

In the 1700s a Japanese man named Homma, a trader in the futures market, developed a method of technical analysis to analyze the price of rice contracts known as candlestick charting. Candlestick charts display the high, low, open, and close for a security each day over a specified period of time, in a format similar to a bar chart, but in a manner that extenuates the relationship between the opening and closing prices.

A technical indicator is a series of data points that are derived by applying a formula to the price data of a security. Price data includes any combination of the open, high, low or close over a period of time. Some indicators may use only the closing prices, while others incorporate volume and open interest into their formulas. The price data is entered into the formula and a data point is produced. For example, the average of 3 closing prices is one data point((41+43+43)/3=42. 33)... A series of data points over a period of time is required to create valid reference points to enable analysis. By creating a time series of data points, a comparison can be made between present and past levels. For analysis purposes, technical indicators are usually shown in a graphical form above or below a security's price chart. Once shown in graphical form, an indicator can then be compared with the corresponding price chart of the security.

Technical indicators look to predict the future price levels, or simply the general price direction, of a security by looking at past patterns. Examples of common technical indicators include the relative strength index, the money flow index, stochastics, the MACD [moving average convergence divergence] and the bollinger bands.

A short straight line terminating at the station circle on a synoptic chart and representing the direction from which the wind blows.

Wind speed is the measurement of the wind blowing toward your observation station. It is measured using a wind instrument such as an anemometer or visual observation using the Beaufort scale. The speed of the wind is recorded on your station model by adding hash marks and pennants at the end of the shaft you used to record the wind direction. The hash marks and pennants should be drawn on the right side of the wind shaft as viewed by a person facing the wind with their back to the station. [The figure] below is a station model recording clear skies, winds out of the northwest at 15 miles per hour ...

K-Means Cluster Analysis Results. The k-means algorithm is a clustering method which measures the proximity between groups using the Euclidean distance between group centroids. Beginning with an initial selection of k groups, this clustering algorithm allows to locate each respondent within clusters according to his/her distance to the nearest centroid. In total, 10 cluster solutions were tested using the Environics 1995 survey data. A scree plot of the derived proximity measure(in this case the Euclidean distance between group centroids) by the cluster solution is presented in chart 1.
