Chloroquine maculopathy : Chloroquine is an antimalarial drug that is also used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and SLE [systemic lupus erythematosus].... The long-term use of chloroquine causes keratopathy, maculopathy and optic neuropathy. The corneal deposits(verticillata) do not cause visual symptoms but macular edema and subsequent development of maculopathy impair the vision significantly.

Because there is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis(RA), the goal of treatment is to put the disease into remission. A category of drugs with some ability to do this is the disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs(DMARDs). To be designated a DMARD, a drug must change the course of RA for at least 1 year as evidenced by one of the following : sustained improvement in physical function, decreased inflammatory synovitis, slowing or prevention of structural joint damage.

Avec les années, la condition [...] a été appelée par plusieurs noms : la toxémie allergique, l'allergie cérébrale, la sensibilité chimique, la maladie écologique, la maladie environnementale, [le] dérèglement du système immunitaire, [la] sensibilité chimique multiple, [le] syndrome allergique total, [l']allergie environnementale totale, [le] syndrome de trouble immunologique total, [le] syndrome de réponse toxique, la maladie du 20e siècle, l'allergie universelle, et plusieurs autres noms qui suggèrent une variété de facteurs comme causes.
