Biceps curls can be done using any of the following equipment : dumbbells, barbell, E-Z bar..., cable machine, biceps curling machine. Although the exercises differ, a common factor of each is a "curling" motion, where a weight-attached to an item of equipment listed above-is moved through an arc, primarily using the strength of the biceps. The biceps is contracted to lift the weight upward through the arc, to a point where further movement is not possible. The biceps is then extended, lowering the weight back through the arc, to the start position.

The term "curl" could also refer to a "leg curl" but, in the sources consulted, it was used as a synonym of "biceps curl."

The rack deadlift is a partial version of the conventional deadlift. You perform it inside a power rack with pins set so that the bar is located just above the knees. It is an excellent exercise for beginners–you don’t have to use a full ROM [range of movement], and having the rack is like using a spotter. Deadlifts from a racked position emphasize your low back muscles, because you won’t be bending as low and thereby incorporating your legs. Use this exercise to help strengthen the low back specifically or if you want to attempt heavier weights than you can lift from the floor.

Begin this exercise using a shoulder-width stance with the arms just outside the thighs. Using an overhand grip, bend the knees slightly to grasp the bar. Inhale. Exhale as you pull the weight off the pins, keeping the back flat, the abs tight, the head up, and the weights close to the body. Don’t bounce the bar off the pins in the rack.

How to perform the Smith machine deadlift. First, set up the Smith bar on the floor with the desired weight you want to lift. Walk up to the bar so that your shins are directly against the Smith bar. However, by using this grip, the lifter can experience more hip flexion and thus possibly a greater stimulus to the hip extensors(and less of a stimulus to the quadriceps). The snatch grip applies a great stress to the grip, upper back, and trapezius muscles and thus should help develop more upper back strength.

A "bar" is a guide bar on a tricot or raschel machine, both of which make fabric from warp threads by meshing together the loops formed from individual yarns. The guide bar controls the movement of the warp yarns around the needles and this movement determines the characteristics of the fabric. Commercial tricot machines can have up to 18 bars, and raschel machines up to 48 bars.
