The entry from the intermediate pressure hose into the second stage is sealed with a spring-loaded valve. The spring is just strong enough to hold back the intermediate pressure. The valve is also connected to a lever that touches the membrane of the second stage. When a diver inhales, the membrane is pulled inward. This action pushes the lever down. The movement of the lever opens the valve and air can flow into the second stage. When the diver stops inhaling, the membrane moves back to its original position and the second stage valve can close again.

A back vent is that part of a vent line which connects directly with an individual trap beneath or behind a fixture and extends to a branch or main soil or waste pipe at any point higher than the fixture or fixture trap it serves.

Si l'on réunit descente et chute en une chute unique la norme fait obligation d'établir une ventilation spéciale pour tous les siphons des appareils autres que les W.-C. : c'est ce qu'on appelle la ventilation secondaire. Quand il y a plusieurs appareils les ventilations sont raccordées à un réseau dit réseau de ventilation secondaire.

Strictement parlant, les termes «ventilation secondaire», «dispositif de ventilation secondaire», «évent de siphonnement» ou «anti(-)siphonnage» doivent être considérés comme des génériques englobant la «colonne de ventilation secondaire», tuyau vertical repiqué sur la chute, et le «branchement de ventilation secondaire», tuyau horizontal légèrement incliné, repiqué sur la colonne de ventilation secondaire ou sur la chute.

Each of the two hydraulic systems for the Douglas DC-9 airplane is provided with an auxiliary, electrically driven, variable-displacement hydraulic pump. The pumps are explosion-resistant, hydraulic-fluid-cooled and lubricated, self-supercharged, and pressure-and horsepower-controlled. They are capable of supplying a nonpulsating flow of hydraulic fluid in varying volume, depending upon system pressure... Control of the pumps is accomplished by means of switches in the flight compartment. If one engine should stop or if the hydraulic pump on that engine should fail, it is merely necessary to turn on the electric pump switch to place the system back in full operation. Each pump is connected to its respective system by means of flexible hoses with a ground power suction disconnect fitting installed in the suction line. The left pump can be quickly removed and installed in the right system if the right pump fails.

Synchro torque receivers... are electrically identical to torque transmitters of the same size except for the addition of some form of damping. In some sizes of 400-Hz synchros, units are designated as torque receivers but may be used as either transmitters or receivers. Unlike the transmitter, the receiver has an electrical input to its stator and a mechanical output from its rotor. The synchro receiver's function is to convert the electrical data supplied to its stator from the transmitter, back to a mechanical angular position through the movement of its rotor. This function is accomplished when the rotor is connected to the same ac source as the transmitter and assumes a position determined by the interaction of its magnetic field with the magnetic field of the stator.
