An assembly of hole boring equipment used for drilling for oil or gas.

A rotary boring bit consisting of two to four-cone-shaped, toothed rollers which are turned by the rotation of the drill rods. They are used in hard rock in oil well boring and other deep holes down to 15, 000 feet and more. Although their penetration speed is somewhat slow, roller bits last longer which is a very important factor in deep drilling.

In rolling cutter bits, the cone type bits currently manufactured have three cutters or two cutters. For general overall use the bit with three cones is a better balanced bit.

Roller-cone bits are also called rock bits. The surface of each cone is made up of rows of steel or tungsten carbide teeth or rows of tungsten carbide inserts. Tungsten carbide insert bits are usually used to drill extremely hard formations.

La tarière à godet normale est un cylindre métallique d'environ 16 cm de longueur et de 8 à 10 cm de diamètre. Floor-type horizontal boring, drilling, and milling machines are characterized by stationary mounting of the workpiece on a floor plate.... to help compensate for this loss of movement of the workpiece, parallel runways with precision ways are provided on which the column can be positioned and clamped or fed horizontally at right angles to the spindle axis.

Machines à montant mobile ou machines à taque (...). Dans ce type de machine, le montant du chariot porte-broche est mobile sur le banc, au long duquel est installée une taque, destinée à supporter des pièces encombrantes ou trop lourdes pour être déplacées en cours d'usinage.

OBS

Lorsque la taque existe, l'expression "machine à taque" est à employer de préférence à celle de "machine à montant mobile", afin d'éviter toute confusion avec les machines à banc en croix, munies également d'un montant mobile.
