Modern heap leach pads are large engineered structures, lined with an impermeable layer of plastic(referred to as a geosynthetic membrane) and placed over a prepared surface that is typically a compacted soil layer. Ore is placed(heaped) on the lined pad and treated with chemicals to dissolve(leach) a metal of interest while protecting the environment. The plastic liner placed at the bottom and around the sides of the pad prevents chemicals from leaking into the soil and contaminating groundwater. The plastic utilized for these liners must be capable of withstanding the excessive weight of stacked ore, the continuous application of corrosive chemicals, and harsh weather conditions over the long term.

There is an alternative between closed-and open-loop systems called standing column wells(SCWs). In a SCW, groundwater is pumped from the base of a deep well and directed to a heat exchanger.... A SCW consists of a long borehole mostly drilled in the bedrock and filled with groundwater... Typical installations use a PVC [polyvinyl chloride] pipe almost as long as the well within which a submersible pump is installed. In a conventional SCW, groundwater is pumped at the bottom of the well through a PVC pipe and returned below the dynamic level in the annular space of the borehole via a rejection pipe.... Before reinjecting the groundwater into the SCW, part of the flow rate can be diverted into a separate injection well. This process is called "bleed" and improves the system performance by attracting water from the undisturbed neighbouring ground through aquifer fractures. The bleed induces heat transfer by advection..., which improves significantly the thermal efficiency of the SCW.

Related to the lute, the mandolin is a small stringed instrument constructed of wood. Its eight wire strings are tuned in pairs to the same notes as those of a violin. Les niveaux trophiques désignent un niveau ou une position dans une chaîne alimentaire ou un réseau alimentaire. C'est l'un des plus anciens concepts de l'écologie qui cherche à expliquer les relations énergétiques entre les différents organismes. [...] le niveau trophique inférieur est connu sous le nom de producteurs primaires. Il s'agit généralement de plantes comme le phytoplancton, les algues et les algues marines. Ce sont généralement les organismes les plus abondants de l'écosystème.

Bottom pair trawls can sometimes be confused with the pair seines... The main difference is that pair trawls catch fish through towing for a longer period of time[, ] while pair seines catch fish mainly through encircling the fish with heavy seine ropes while towing for a short time period. The shape of a pair seine changes constantly during fishing, while that of a pair trawl is more or less stable after the net starts to fish after setting and when the boats maintain their horizontal separation.

Each [lobster] trap is allowed to... stay in the water for usually two or three days. Then the lobster boat returns to haul up each trap. The [fisher] will pull the boat up beside the trap and snag the buoy with a gaffe, a special hook designed for that purpose. The trap line will then be brought onto the boat and connected to a hydraulic trap hauler, an automated pulley-like system that reels the trap up from the bottom to the side of the boat.
