The [fisher] will pull the boat up beside the trap and snag the buoy with a gaffe, a special hook designed for that purpose. Aquatic weeds can be grouped by the following categories : algae, and emersed, floating, submersed and marginal(shoreline) weeds. Algae are green, stringy mats, sometimes called "pond scum". Algae are primitive plants without leaves, stems or roots. Emersed aquatic weeds generally are rooted in the soil, with part of the plant growing above the water surface.... Floating aquatic weeds are seed-bearing plants that float freely on the surface of the water or have leaves that float on the surface, connected by long stems to roots in the lake bottom. The drilling method by which a hole is drilled by a rotating bit to which a downward force is applied.

During the last 40 years, rotary drilling has become the preferred method for penetrating underground formations... a special tool-the drill bit-rotates while bearing down on the bottom of the well, thus gouging and chipping its way downward... The drill bit is connected to the surface equipment through a drill pipe, a heavy-walled tubing through which the drilling mud is fed to the bottom of the bore hole. In most cases, the drill pipe also transmits the rotation motion from a turntable at the surface to the bit at the bottom of the hole.

Hot water for domestic purposes can be provided at low cost by the thermosyphon solar heater. The heat collector is a flat plate of blackened metal(steel, aluminum, or copper), to which tubes are attached in any manner which provides good thermal contact. The tubes are connected to headers at the top and bottom of the collector plate, which is insulated to minimize loss of heat from the rear surface. The collector is glazed with a glass or plastic cover to trap the Sun's heat and to reduce heat loss to the atmosphere.

EVA Gloves(left and right). If you look at the bottom of an EVA glove, you’ll see that it has a ring. This ring is used to snap onto the sleeve of the upper torso. It also contains a wrist bearing that is used to help the astronaut rotate his hand. On the opposite end of the glove are rubber finger caps. The scientists chose silicone rubber so that the astronauts could have some sense of touch when working with equipment and tools. Along the gloves are loops. Tethers connected to small tools can be latched onto the loops to prevent the items from floating off into space. The astronauts also like to wear thin fabric comfort gloves with wristlets band of materials worn for warmth within their EVA gloves.

Hexapod is a support facility to be mounted on an EXPA of the ISS. The facility will be used for the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment III(SAGE III). The facility has a bottom plate and a top plate. The two plates are connected by 6 linear actuators. Hexapod receives the pointing data from SAGE III and the actual base position from the ISS-EXPA. From this data the HEXAPOD control algorithm calculates the next position for each leg. Each linear actuator is driven by a double winding Brushless DC Motor, while the position is monitored by an incremental encoder. To sustain the launch load a launch support structure has been designed, which is released by dedicated electromechanical devices. Hexapod is controlled by a dedicated electronic unit... which interfaces to the Station via the MIL BUS 1553B.

DIDO Experiment Container is essentially a box with a side length of 150 mm. Design philosophy of DIDO experiment foreseen an "all inside" approach, so(at this moment) the experiment container is a mere box with no windows or openings, or relevant external features. DIDO EC is intended as a structural part for the inside experiment; only mechanical, electrical and data interfaces are required to connect DIDO EC with GLAD facility. The box is assembled as one piece but the topside is removable to have access to DIDO experiment. In this way the topside component works as a cover plate. The EC is made by(TBD) material and to meet safety requirements EC' s corners are slightly rounded, materials must not be flammable and machined with non-toxic surface treatment. Cover plate is connected with the box through screws. The bottom side, instead, compose the "first plate" of DIDO experiment, housing tanks and pumping system. Another plate placed about half height provides a "second plate" for DIDO cell and relative optics, laser unit and CCD camera.

Objectives of the experiment DIDO ... is the measurement of diffusion coefficients in a three-component solution. It’s impossible to carry out these measurements on Earth because in a diffusion boundary, when the transport is promoted by at least two independent driving forces, convention instabilities may arise, called "fingers" and "overstability."

Correction for Deviation by Swinging the Compass : The effect of deviation is neutralized in airplanes as far as possible by a procedure called "Swinging the Compass". The compass is fitted with corrector magnets, which are permanently installed and connected by gears. They are located in the top and bottom of the compass case and are adjusted by screws. As the compass is "swung", the screws are adjusted to eliminate deviation. It is rarely possible, however, to completely eliminate it. The deviation remaining after the compass has been "swung" is tabulated on a Compass Deviation Card to enable the pilot to make allowance for it.... The compass should be swung with the engine running and all radio and electrical equipment functioning.

A jug with a globular body and a cylindrical neck pierced with openwork in such a way that ordinary pouring or drinking is impossible. It has from three to seven spouts in the rim which surmounts the neck, one of them being connected with a concealed tube or siphon which runs through the rim and handle to the bottom of the jug. There are also holes which need to be closed by the fingers before the contents can be sucked up. Some are inscribed with challenging legends. Earthenware, stoneware, and slipware examples exist; they were common from the 17th to the 19th century in Europe, and especially in England where many were made of English delftware.
