A trade name for a heavy caterpillar-mounted continuous miner for operation in thick seams. The front end contains two cutter-arms which rotate in opposite directions to sweep the coal they cut inwards towards the centre. The broken coal is taken back through the machine to a chain conveyor. Two cutter chains are arranged at roof and floor level behind the arms to cut down the coal left between the rotating arms. The machine cuts an area 12 ft wide and 7 ft high. Power is supplied by two motors, one of 70 h. p. and the other 25 h. p. It has a continuous capacity from 3 to 3 1/2 t. p. m. Son dispositif de coupe est constitué essentiellement par 2 bras rotatifs creusant chacun 4 saignées concentriques. Le terrain entre saignées est brisé par le passage de rouleaux biconiques libres travaillant comme «éclateurs» [...] Les bras rotatifs font deux trous cylindriques qui se recoupent légèrement. A widely used cutter-loader in which the ordinary jib of the longwall coal-cutter is replaced by a shear drum which cuts a web from 16 to 22 in. depending on its width. The machine travels on an armoured conveyor and requires a prop-free-front for working. It shears the coal in one direction and the front coal is loaded by a plough deflector, and then returns along the face(without cutting) and loads the remainder of the broken coal. Elle a été fabriquée en Angleterre par Anderson Boyes et en France, sous licence, par la Sagem. C'est une machine à tambour ravageur. Précédemment, le même constructeur avait réalisé une haveuse intégrale où la tête d'abatage était constituée par six chaînes de haveuse circulaires et parallèles. A rapid plough for use on longwall faces. The machine is superior to the original Loebbe Hobel and can negotiate small faults or washouts on the face by the use of more than one plough. It is suitable for seams from 2 to 8 ft thick, with reasonably good roof and floor. The plough travels along the face at a speed of 75 f. p. m. with a cutting depth from 1 1/2 to 3 in. and the broken coal is loaded by the plough-shaped body on to an armoured conveyor. Le Anbauhobel ou rabot rajouté. C'est une modification du rabot rapide. Ici, la tête de commande du rabot est indépendante de la tête motrice du blindé et s'adapte latéralement à celui-ci [...] Une deuxième tête peut être placée en taille à n'importe quel endroit, par exemple avant une faille qui empêcherait de raboter plus loin. Quelquefois, cette deuxième tête est remplacée par une simple étoile de retour fixée en n'importe quel point du convoyeur blindé [...] Le rabot rajouté entraîne quelques complications électriques, les moteurs devant tourner dans les deux sens et avoir deux protections contre les surintensités. Par contre, on n'est plus obligé de démonter complètement le rabot lorsqu'un accident apparaît en taille. On rabote au contraire ce que l'on veut. Haveuse Anderton. Elle a été fabriquée en Angleterre par Anderton Boyes et en France, sous licence, par la Sagem. C'est une machine à tambour ravageur. [...] Ses passes sont de 50 cm. Dans les couches de plus de 1,25 m, les résultats sont favorables lorsque le charbon se décolle de lui-même au toit. Le tambour, dans sa rotation, attaque également la banquette située au mur devant le convoyeur blindé sur lequel la machine évolue. La machine est complétée par un soc en acier forgé permettant le chargement dans les deux sens, de sorte qu'une partie du charbon est chargée au cours de l'abatage lui-même, le reste l'étant lors du mouvement de retour de la machine qui se fait à vitesse rapide. The broken coal is loaded on to an armoured flexible conveyor which, with the aid of hydraulic rams, holds the plough up to the coalface and causes the knives to bite into the coal as they are pulled along. Le rabot est une lourde pièce d'acier symétrique garnie de pics, qui peut travailler dans les deux sens le long du front de taille. Il est tiré en va-et-vient lent par une chaîne sans fin actionnée par un ou deux puissants moteurs. Il est pressé contre le massif rocheux par des pousseurs pneumatiques, répartis le long du front, qui agissent sur le convoyeur blindé de l'autre côté duquel se trouve le rabot. Les pics du rabot mordent dans la roche qu'ils abattent et le socle déverse sur le convoyeur blindé. Joy presently offer both chain ripper miners and the rotary drum head-type miners introduced in 1968. However, the rotary drum head machines are proving to be the more popular and look to be superseding the chain ripper models produced by Joy. In operation the chain ripper machine works as follows. The machine is trammed forward into position then, while the main chassis of the machine remains stationary, the cutting head moves forward, sumping into the coal at the bottom of the face. The rotation of the chains carries the broken coal back over the head and deposits it on to the chain conveyor which then moves the coal to the rear end of the machine. When the sumping operation is complete, the head travels upwards towards the top of the seam, breaking out the coal as it moves.
