The question presented in many parricide cases is the admissibility of expert testimony on battered child syndrome to aid in proving the defendant's claim of self-defense. Although battered child syndrome was originally developed as a physical diagnosis for victims of continuing child abuse, it currently includes an explanation of the psychological aspects as well. In the case of the battered woman, this failure to strike out is attributed to learned helplessness resulting from her continued abuse. For a child, the feelings of lack of power or control over the situation are even greater than for a grown adult in such a situation. A child has minimal ability to leave home and permanently escape the abuse. This inability to escape results in increased fear and isolation. Often the child has been battered since a very young age and remembers no other type of existence.

Changes in responsibilities continued through the late 1960s. In 1969, as recommended by the Glassco Commission, the position of Comptroller of the Treasury was abolished and departments took responsibility for certifying and authorizing expenditures. The Comptroller's office became part of the Department of Supply and Services. This function remained in PWGSC [Public Works and Government Services Canada] as the Receiver General of Canada. In 1978 as part of the government's response to the Auditor General' s Report, a new Office of the Comptroller General was established. While similar in name to the former Comptroller of the Treasury the function was different. The Comptroller General reported to the Treasury Board on financial management program evaluation and internal audit in government departments. As part of this reorganization [in 1993, ] the Office of the Comptroller General of Canada which had existed as a distinct organization separate from the Treasury Board Secretariat since 1978 was amalgamated with the Secretariat and the title and responsibilities for both were delegated to a single individual –Secretary of the Treasury Board and Comptroller General of Canada. In June 2004, following the appointment of the new Comptroller General, a new Office of the Comptroller General(OCG) was established as a distinct organization in TBS [Treasury Board Secretariat]. Consistent with the focus on sound financial management in the OCG, other responsibilities that were under the former Comptrollership Branch now fall elsewhere in the Secretariat.

Founded in 1935, the Australia-New Zealand Association was formed with the purpose to meet and welcome visitors from down under, and gather together socially from time to time. ANZA continued their meet & greet, and social functions throughout the years, until the flow of visitors ceased due to travel restrictions brought on by the start of World War Two. In 1952, the ANZA was revived but the nature of ANZA changed, and it became primarily a social club for Australians & New Zealanders living in the Greater Vancouver area... The ANZA has evolved into a sort of neighbourhood institution – much like the British "local".
