The Institute of East European, Russian and Central Asian Studies(IEERCAS) which falls under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(CASS), was formerly named the Institute of Soviet and East European Studies. Preparations for its setting up began in July 1964 and it was formally established in March 1965. After the dissolution of the former Soviet Union, the Institute adopted its current name in 1992. On July 8, 1976, Royal Canadian Mint president, Yvon Gariepy, announced that an annual award would be bestowed to the Canadian deemed to have contributed the most to numismatic education in Canada. The award was in the form of a sterling silver medal, and would be known as the Royal Canadian Mint Award. It measures 45 mm in diameter and depicts a view of the Royal Canadian Mint building on 320 Sussex Drive in Ottawa. One example of a performance-based training system is driver education. Before anyone can get a driver's licence, they have to show they can drive a car. Knowing what the street signs mean is not enough; knowing the theory of parallel parking is not enough; knowing how the demerit system works is not enough. The aim of this program of the Canadian Committee for the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations is to find someone who has contributed to world understanding and to relate their story. This person could be someone who has has worked on a project in Canada which has contributed to UN issues on global understanding, for example, cleaned up the environment, participated in a peace march, taken action against racism, organized a clothing/food drive, spoken on conflict resolution and non-violence, promoted health and discouraged use of drugs and alcohol. UN issues include peace, security, education, health, poverty, environment, and manymore.
