Accurate measurement of higher order aberrations is fundamentally dependant on the resolution of the measurement. Without adequate resolution, an instrument will report the aberration at a significantly lower magnitude than reality, or potentially ignore the feature completely.... The Complete Ophthalmic Analysis System(COAS) is a Shack-Hartmann based wavefront aberrometer. Currently in use around the world in leading research institutions as well as for customized ablation procedures, COAS provides the highest resolution wavefront measurement available.

Biomass burning has only recently been recognized as a major source of important trace gases and aerosol particles. Through burning, the chemical elements in vegetation are cycled back to the atmosphere and to soils in chemical and physical forms and proportions which make biomass burning an important biogeochemical process. Before the advent of humans, fire was ignited naturally by lightning strikes in dry vegetated regions. Today, however, the process is driven almost exclusively by human activity which includes the burning of forested areas to facilitate land clearing, the burning of harvest debris to maintain cleared land, the extensive burning of natural grasslands and savannas to sustain nomadic agriculture, and the burning of biomass as fuel for cooking and heating. The importance of biomass burning is well recognized in International Global Atmospheric Chemistry and this activity, Biomass Burning Experiment : Impact on the Atmosphere and Biosphere(BIBEX), was established to address this phenomenon. It is being carried out by a multi-national science team at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Germany.

Most modern single-wheeled and two-wheeled tractors can be equipped with a cutter-bar which is useful for tidying up small areas of land where weeds grow, as well as for more straightforward work on long grass. By no means did the Prague school restrict itself to phonology. Indeed, Roman Jakobson and his colleagues were driven by a lust to write about nearly every aspect of language, from phonology to poetry, and about a large band of languages as well. Invading the field of psychology, Jakobson(1941) sought to apply his interest in sound laws to a wide variety of populations. He discerned a sequence of sound development in normal children, one that follows what he called the law of maximal contrast; and he went on to demonstrate that this developmental progression is reversed in an orderly way as a result of damage to the human brain. Jakobson showed, furthermore, that the same kinds of contrast that had worked for the description of phonology could also be applied to choices made at other linguistic levels, ranging from syntax to pragmatics. And in a fertile methodological contribution, Jakobson pointed out that most linguistic contrasts are not equivalent or reversible.

Mesojet... typically may have an along-flow length scale of tens to hundreds of kilometers and a cross-flow length scale of 100 km. Mesojets differ from planetary-scale jets, which can have length scales of several thousand kilometers, and synoptic-scale jets, which may have length scales of 1000-2000 km and are commonly found in association with progressive synoptic-scale troughs and ridges. Larger mesojets may also sometimes be known as jet streaks. Mesojets can form adjacent to prominent orographic features in association with terrain-channeled flow. Mesojets are also seen in association with organized mesocale convective systems as typified by the evaporatively driven rear-inflow jet commonly found behind active squall lines lines. Mesojets may also be found in conjunction with prominent lower-tropospheric stable layers where the airflow can become decoupled from the planetary boundary layer, especially at night. An exceptionally well organized lower-tropospheric mesojet extending over hundreds of kilometers might be known as a low-level jet.

Rapid plows. The Loebbehobel is a rapid plow which is equipped with three or four protruding picks or bits. The plow is double-ended and cuts as it traverses in each direction along the face. The machine normally travels at a speed of about 75 ft/min and takes a slice of coal 3-4 in. thick off the face at each pass. It is pulled to and fro by an endless chain which is driven by the gearheads at each end of the armored conveyor. Maximum pulling force is about 20 tons. This machine is capable of working in seams 1 ft 8 in. thick up to 7 ft thick and can produce, load, and deliver to a gate conveyor from 1. 5 to 5 tons/min. The plow works well in seams which are soft or are hard but friable but will not work well in coal which is "tough" or "woody".

Le rabot rapide (...) En plan, le rabot est un trapèze prolongé par deux lames de guidage passant sous le convoyeur cuirassé. Un tube fixé au convoyeur sert de guide au rabot. En même temps, il loge le brin de retour de la chaîne de halage, le brin d'attaque étant par contre libre à front de taille. Le blindé a une tête motrice à chaque extrémité de la taille, qui entraîne en même temps la chaîne du rabot. L'entraînement se fait par embrayage commandé automatiquement par le rabot lui-même qui arrivé en fin de taille, déclenche le dispositif de commande et d'inversion (...)
