Gender expansive : An umbrella term sometimes used to describe people who expand notions of gender expression and identity beyond perceived or expected societal gender norms. Some gender-expansive individuals identify as a mix of genders, some identify more binarily as a man or a woman, and some identify as no gender... Gender-expansive people might feel that they exist among genders, as on a spectrum, or beyond the notion of the man/woman binary paradigm. Sometimes gender-expansive people use gender-neutral pronouns..., but people can exist as any gender while using any pronouns. They may or may not be comfortable with their bodies as they are, regardless of how they express their gender.

Those who recorded the period of the fur trade in writing noted a distinction which still exists today between Crees of the coast (Coasters) and Crees from the interior (Inlanders). The main activity of the coastal Crees was goose hunting; their hunting and trapping territories were not very far away and did not require the use of a canoe ... The inland Crees, more numerous than those of the coast and occupying the land at a distance from the coast, only came to the post once a year to exchange their furs; they were the main suppliers of pelts.

OBS

There are four ways to express an indigenous collectivity in English : 1) with the plural inflection "-s"; 2) if the collectivity does not apply to a subgroup, with the use of the term "nation", as in the Cree nation; 3) with the use of the word "people", as in the Huron and Cree peoples; 4) with the use of the definite article, e. g. The Cree of the coast make up the aboriginal nation occupying the Haute-Mauricie region. Since the "-s" is redundant, this author prefers the use of the definite article(e. g. the Cree, the Haida, etc.). However the use of "nation" is the option preferred most by the Native peoples of Canada, for political reasons.

A gratuitous loan is a class of bailment called "commodatum" in the civil law, and denominated by Sir William Jones as a loan for use (prêt à uage), to distinguish it from mutuum, a loan for consumption. (Jowitt, p. 1110)

CONT

Nature of gratuitous loan for use. In deposit and mandate the bailor has all the advantages of the bailment. In gratuitous loan for use the reverse is the case. This is a bailment where a chattel is lent by its owner to the bailee for the express purpose of conferring a benefit upon the bailee, without any corresponding advantage to its owner. EXPRESS Rack Simulator. The ERS located in the PSC [Payload Support Center] is composed of three racks. The first is the EXPRESS Rack Mock-up, the second is the data acquisition system rack and the third is the water cooling rack. In addition to being able to accommodate payload that would mechanically interface with the 8/2 ER configuration, the rack will also accommodate different size ISIS drawers. There is a possibility that one of the CSA payloads will use a 12-PU drawer. For this reason the configuration of the EXPRESS Rack Mock-up was chosen to be 4/6, i. e. 4 MDL [Mid-Deck Storage Locker] and 6 ISIS [International Sub-rack Interface Standard] drawers. Essentially, the CSA rack is the bottom portion of the ER with 4 drawers added on the bottom. This configuration will permit the accommodation of single, double and quad MDL as well as 4-PU, 8-PU and 12-PU ISIS drawers. The ERS has the same mechanical interface and front panel layout than the EXPRESS Rack to provide higher fidelity during training for the ISS crew. This also provides a better verification environment. The ERS provides 28V to the payloads rated at 5, 10, 15 or 20 Amps but does not include the RIC or other ER equipment. This is why a Suitcase Simulator will be used to communicate with the payload in the rack.

A smothered verb is a verb converted to a noun, so it needs a helping verb and prepositions or articles to express action. This lengthens a sentence and saps its vitality. It also encourages use of the passive voice. "We are in agreement with the decision. "In this sentence, the writer has smothered the main verb(agree) with a noun(agreement). The noun now requires a helping verb(are) and a preposition(in) to show action.

CONT

Who Was That Masked Verb? An easy way to make your writing more brief is to unmask verbs. A masked (or smothered) verb kills your sentence with word overload or by unnecessarily combining nouns and verbs. So instead of writing, "The report is saying everything is fine," write, "The report says everything is fine." You’ve strengthened the verb by taking out "is," a static word that does little to move the reader forward. Other examples: "The committee made the decision to adjourn" vs. "The committee decided to adjourn"; "I came to the conclusion he was right" vs. "I concluded he was right."

DEF

... volume of water relative to the total volume of soil.

CONT

Another way to express the moisture content of a soil is the volumetric water content... The use of volumetric water content rather than wetness is often more convenient because it is more directly adaptable to the computation of fluxes and water quantities added or subtracted to a soil. Also, volumetric water content represents the depth ratio of soil water, i. e., the depth of water per depth of soil. In Narrabri the volumetric water content was tested by two different methods, these being the Neutron Probe and by Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR).

CONT

Neutronometry: counting of the neutrons thermalized by inelastic shocks on the nuclei of hydrogen atoms using a ’neutron probe’. The volumic water content is determined on the whole soil profile. The equipment is expensive, calibration is delicate, and its use is subject to constraints (radioprotection). However, it can provide rapid and sequential measures at the same place without disturbing the soil.

Currently PACE users, for a $25 annual fee, receive a special windshield decal authenticity. Users deposit declaration cards in a box at the inspection booth before proceeding. Duties are charged to a credit card. Approximately 60, 000 vehicles use the PACE express lane to ensure that only approved travellers use it, and that those who do comply with the terms and conditions of the program. If users don’t comply, their privileges are withdrawn and appropriate penalties applied. Until now the CANPASS-Highway system for pre-approved travellers has been available only at four border crossings in British Columbia. • Practice and Procedural Law
  • Phraseology
OBS

There are few pairs of words more frequently misused, each for the other, than "flaunt" and "flout" ... The distinction is really very simple. "Flaunt" means to "show something off proudly or boastfully": "The drum corps proudly flaunts its colors." "Flout" means to "show scorn or contempt for a person or thing": "The speeding driver flouts the law."

OBS

Confusion of these terms is distressingly common. "Flout" means "to contravene or disregard; to treat with contempt." "Flaunt" means "to show off or parade (something) in an ostentatious manner," but is often incorrectly used for "flout", perhaps because it is misunderstood as a telescoped version of "flout" and "taunt".

OBS

The use of "flaunt" to mean "to ignore or treat with disdain" is strongly objected by many usage guides, which insist that only "flout" can properly express this meaning... many regard the senses of "flaunt" and "flout" as entirely unrelated and concerned speakers and writers still continue to keep them separate.

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Distillation
OBS

In distillation process, the trays are at different temperatures and their function is the transfer of both mass and heat. At each tray, the rising vapor is warmer than the falling liquid and the tray temperature is somewhere in between. The temperature of the tray is at the boiling point of the liquid on the tray. ... Distillation tray efficiencies are a measure of the physical equilibrium attained on the tray between the liquid and the vapors. The efficiencies normally range from 50 to 80%.

OBS

Plate efficiency : This term is used to express the relationship between the performance of an actual plate and a theoretical plate. Many definitions have been given for plate efficiency, but the simplest to use is the overall column efficiency which is the ratio of the number of theoretical plates required for a given separation divided by the actual number of plates needed.

At the same time that the patient develops movement expression [in movement or dance therapy] verbalization of feelings and group interactions are encouraged, with movement sessions taking on a decidedly social character. Dance movements as such are not taught, although the leader may express themes, suggest directions, provide music or lead discussions that help to stimulate creative expression on an individual or small-group basis. Ultimately, patients are helped to come to grips with their bodies more fully, to have a clearer image of themselves and to discover a new medium through which they can communicate their feelings and release their inner tensions.... Although primary emphasis is given [to its use] with psychiatric patients, it has also been used with the physically disabled, the elderly and even the deaf and blind as a way of helping them come to grips with their own body images and become more fully integrated emotionally and physically through nonverbal experience.
