La génétique somatique a clairement démontré la fécondité des recherches concernant l'organisation, l'expression et la régulation des gènes chez de nombreuses espèces, y compris l'homme. La possibilité de manipuler et d'introduire du matériel génétique dans des cellules en culture grâce à l'hybridation cellulaire nous permet maintenant d'étudier l'expression des gènes au niveau de la cellule in vitro, mais aussi in vivo dans un organisme entier. À ce jour, les études comparatives de l'expression génique reposent essentiellement sur l'hybridation soustractive (ou technique de banques soustractives). Cette technique permet de détecter les espèces d'ARNm présentes dans une cellule particulière par différence avec les ARNm d'une cellule prise comme référence. The process by which an embryo acquires the morphologic characteristics of its sex. At the start of development in vertebrates each embryo possesses a double assortment of genital ducts, the müllerian ducts with female potentialities and the wolffian ducts with male potentialities. Depending on the genetic sex of the embryo, one of these assortments will disappear and the genital organs will differentiate in a male or in a female direction.
