Weight-driven clocks, as the name suggests, are mechanical clocks powered by falling weights that hang on a chain or cable. With the aid of gravity, the weights are pulled down slowly, typically in a period of 7 days. After which, the weights go back up. The chain or cable holding the weight needs to be manually pulled up or wound using a crank to start another cycle.

A situation in a game where all the players allowed by the rules are on the field.

Full strength(also called 5-on-5) in ice hockey refers to when both teams have five skaters and one goaltender on the ice. The official term used by the National Hockey League(NHL) is at even strength — abbreviated EV on official scoresheets and goaltenders’ individual stats. All games start with both teams at full strength. Teams that take a penalty, go on the power play, or pull the goalie are no longer at full strength.

A style of start used in track and field ... when a race is run that incorporates one or both of the turns in the track. Basically, it sets the runners in the outer lanes a bit ahead (usually a few meters per lane) of the first lane.

The starting point in each lane is adjusted to compensate for the runners in the outer lanes having farther to go to reach the inside position on the track than those in the inside lanes. In events run entirely in lanes, the starting point in each lane is advanced from the same point on the track to compensate for the longer distance in the outside lanes. Un tour de piste, départ décalé.

Pour l'épreuve de 800 mètres, l'épreuve de relais de 4 x 200 mètres, et l'épreuve de relais de 4 x 400 mètres, (épreuves se déroulant en couloirs au départ, mais après un point déterminé préalablement, les concurrents pourront se rabattre à la corde), un ajustement du point de départ dans chaque couloir est fait pour compenser les concurrents placés le plus loin de la corde, et qui ont plus de chemin à parcourir pour parvenir vers la corde que ceux des couloirs intérieurs. Pour les épreuves se déroulant complètement en couloirs, la position normale de départ de chaque couloir est avancée en commençant au même point de la piste afin de compenser la distance plus longue des couloirs extérieurs. Ainsi, chaque concurrent parcourt une distance identique du départ à l'arrivée. (Fédération canadienne d'athlétisme amateur.

Sunrise simulator... slowly lights a bedside lamp to simulate dawn. This simulates sunrise and tells your brain that it is time to get up and start the day. Instructions are included. At the time you select, your lamp will slowly go from off to full on.

Research has shown that using a dawn simulator (or Bodyclock) can significantly reduce the severity of SAD [seasonal affective disorder] symptoms, and many SAD sufferers use both a Bodyclock and a lightbox to optimise their treatment. It has also been shown that using a Bodyclock improves mood, energy, productivity and quality of sleep and awakening.

Bodyclocks work by waking you up naturally with light. You choose the time you want to wake up and the light very slowly begins to get brighter (like a sunrise) and starts your body’s natural wake-up process. Although you’re still asleep, your body is responding to the increasing light and when the light reaches full brightness you wake up naturally, not suddenly, to a room filled with a sunny glow. By giving your body a kind of "head-start," instead of still feeling drowsy and confused when you wake up, you feel refreshed, positive and ready for the day ahead.
