We introduce a simple approach to finding approximate solutions to combinatorial problems. This approach called the Radial Search(RS) uses the concept of rings which define the location and size of search areas around current good solutions. It iteratively modifies the radii of these rings, and generates new centres, in order to cover the search space. A concentration step corresponds to choosing a solution as the centre of a new ring. An expansion step corresponds to the exploration around a given centre by increasing and reducing the radius of the ring until a better solution than the centre is found. As part of its 3R-V Program(Reduce at source, Reuse, Recycle, Valorize [sic :"reclamation" is the good equivalent for the French term "valorisation"]), Public Works and Government Services Canada is giving federal material managers the opportunity to acquire or dispose of items in good working condition online, in order to give the items a second useful life. The On-Line Reuse Centre(OLRC) puts into practice the second of the 3 Rs, namely, reuse. Foreseen as a pilot project for 2007-2008, the OLRC complements the network of reuse centres that are already up and running in some federal buildings. Since most facilities do not have the space or resources needed to house a reuse centre, the OLRC is an attractive alternative to get the ball rolling. The ignition transformer, commonly known as a step-up transformer, is used to step up the voltage to 5, 000 V in order to jump the gap at the end of the ignition electrode. Ignition transformers are quite trouble-free, and require only that the primary voltage correspond to that of the transformer, that the electrical connections be clean and tight, and that the secondary terminals be kept clean. If the secondary terminal post becomes fouled with soot, dust, or foreign matter, the high-tension spark can easily short circuit to the transformer case, resulting in no spark at the ignition electrode.
