Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg had been linked, since 1921, by the Belgian-Luxembourg Economic Union(BLEU, no. 01463), which still exists within the Benelux Union. Aims Develop closer economic links among the 3 member countries by ensuring free circulation of persons, goods, capital and services; follow a coordinated policy in economic, financial and social fields in order to reach the optimum level of employment and the highest standard of life compatible with monetary stability, follow a coordinated policy aimed at the harmonious development of the intraborder regions, if useful in an enlarged setting with other neighbouring countries.
