The Office of the Senate Ethics Officer was created as a result of Bill C-4, An Act to amend the Parliament of Canada Act(Senate Ethics Officer and Ethics Commissioner) and other Acts in consequence. That bill received Royal Assent on March 31, 2004. The Office maintains close working relations with provincial and territorial Ethics Offices across the country as well as with the Office of the Ethics Commissioner who is responsible for the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons and the Prime Minister's Conflict of Interest and Post-Employment Code for Public Office Holders.
