The current method for working with video is by capturing and converting the analog signal from a video source and either manipulating the image's data(which is written to video tape) or compressing the data using compression techniques(either software-only compression or a combination of hardware and software compression). To display or capture a single screen of an NTSC [National Television System Committee] signal, you must have a video frame grabber.... Real-time frame grabbers capture full-motion video at a rate between 15 and 30 frames-per-second using video compression...

In the NTSC format, it is achieved when the video signal is reproduced at 30 frames per second and in the PAL format, it occurs at 25 fps.

Le CD-I fait appel à des techniques très sophistiquées de compression d'images pour pouvoir stocker des images animées, très consommatrices d'espace. L'algorithme de compression est baptisé «Full Motion Video» (FMV). C'est la mise au point de cet algorithme qui a permis au CD-I de pouvoir afficher jusqu'à 72 minutes d'images animées plein écran. La qualité de l'image ainsi traitée est équivalente à celle d'un magnétoscope VHS mais inférieure à celle d'un LaserDisc.

[Le tube carottier] permet de remonter la carotte à la surface du sol. Dans ce but, on dispose, entre la couronne et le tube carottier, un extracteur constitué par une bague métallique tronconique, dont la petite base est du côté de la couronne et qui est fendue suivant une génératrice. En s'introduisant dans le carottier, la carotte ouvre la bague et passe facilement. Mais quand on soulève l'outil, la bague solidaire de la carotte descend et se resserre grâce aux portées coniques du manchon extracteur. La carotte ainsi coincée peut être remontée jusqu'à la surface.

A real-time digital video-image-processing system contributes to the automation of weld-seam tracking. The tracking system makes no contact with the seam. A small television camera views the seam just ahead of the point currently being welded. The welding arc provides the illumination. Periodically, a frame grabber digitizes the video image and stores it in a computer memory as gray-scale values. The seam is located by analyzing Hough-transform arrays of derivatives of digitally-filtered image data. The information on the location and orientation of the seam is used as feedback by a welding robot to correct deviations of the electrode from the seam as welding continues.
